Rest in Peace, Dolly

The world is still grieving the loss of the beloved “9 to 5” artist, who died after a brief battle with cancer on Tuesday, August 25.

According to her niece, Jada Star, Dolly kept her cancer battle private in order to protect fans from worrying about her wellbeing.

“It’s been really bittersweet because of this beautiful opportunity we’ve had to see how much the whole world loves her,” Jada told Extra on September 1. “So, all of these tributes have helped so much to help us all through it.”

Dolly was laid to rest alongside her late husband, Carl Dean—who passed away at the age of 82 in March 2025—in a small, private service held for her immediate family.

“A rhinestone life that shone bright enough for the world to see, Dolly will forever stand as an inspiration not only through her timeless music and prolific songwriting, but also her wit, warmth, and kindness that made us all feel like family. Dolly Parton’s legacy is one of love, compassion, and resilience,” her obituary read. “With a seven-decade career, she inspired multiple generations of artists and fans with her music and an unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. Her songs will continue to resonate with people of all ages, and her philanthropic work will have a lasting impact.”

Her nephew, Bryan Seaver, who delivered the tragic news to the world, said, “My family and I have shared a lifetime of beautiful memories with Dolly. But so have you. She has always been on your television, your record player, your CD and on your phone’s playlist, becoming an extended part of your family whether you liked it or not.”
