Blyth appeared on the Monday, January 19, episode of “The Drew Barrymore” show, where he learned that he and the host share a name.

“Your last name…Blyth,” Barrymore, 50, began. “My name is Drew Blythe Barrymore.”

The actor was visibly shocked to learn that information.

“Wait, are you are you joking? Are you serious? Really?” he questioned. “Nobody warned me this. They wanted me to be surprised.”

Barrymore continued, “I was so excited to meet another Blythe.”

The “50 First Dates” actress explained that her paternal great-grandfather was named Herbert Blythe

“And then there was this family called the Drews, that was an acting family,” she continued. “And then when Herbert Blythe met Georgiana Drew, he changed his name for a stage name and named himself Maurice Barrymore.”

She added, “So there is the Blythe, the Barrymore, and the Drew. Hence, I’m Drew Blythe Barrymore.”

While it’s unclear whether the “Wedding Singer” actress and the rising British star are related, Barrymore’s family has been cemented in Hollywood history for generations.

Drew Barrymore’s Family Lineage

Barrymore got her start in Hollywood as a child star in Steven Spielberg’s 1982 film, “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.” Over the last four decades, she has starred in blockbusters such as “Charlie’s Angels,” “Scream,” “Never Been Kissed,” and ultimately landed her own talk show.

However, the Barrymores have had a long history of Hollywood stars, beginning with her great-grandfather Herbert Blythe (known professionally as Maurice Barrymore), according to Britannica. He and wife Georgiana Drew welcomed three children, Ethel, John and Lionel, all of whom became actors of the silent film era.

John Barrymore was married four times. From his second marriage to actress Blanche Oelrichs, he welcomed daughter Diana Blanche Barrymore. Son John Drew Barrymore was born during his marriage to third wife, actress Dolores Costello. Both Diana and John Drew went on to become actors as well.

John Drew welcomed four children, one with each of his wives. The “He’s Just Not That Into You” star was his youngest child, whom he welcomed with his fourth wife, Jaid Barrymore.

Drew joked about her rich family history during her 2013 monologue while hosting “Saturday Night Live.”

“I am always thrilled to be on a stage. It’s like in my DNA,” she laughed. “I am so honored to come from a family of great stage actors who performed on Broadway just blocks from here.”
