Creating a live show comes with a unique set of challenges, but fans never imagined they would see what happened during a segment of “Today with Jenna & Sheinelle” on Friday, August 28, and the shock on co-host Jenna Bush Hager‘s face was clear.
Jenna Bush Hager Checks in With Fallen Cameraman
While on air, stars Hager and Sheinelle Jones appeared shocked when a sound could be heard offscreen. Rather than pretend nothing happened, Hager said, “Are you okay over there?” Page Six reports. The person she was asking was a cameraman who had tripped over a chair. The man confirmed that he was fine, and Hager said she “was going to try to just [keep going].”
“We should keep going! [But] we got to show what just happened. Don’t take us off. Keep us on the air,” Hager said, before informing viewers what had happened to the cameraman. “He was walking backward,” she revealed.“This is the hazard of the job. And he ran into that chair,” she explained. The footage then showed a stool lying on the ground. “Now, the good news is, if you go back, I think our shot was pretty steady.”
The show then briefly showed the cameraman to confirm that he was indeed OK after what happened to him. “You almost fell backwards, and yet you kept that camera [still],” Hager said. Jones also praised his professionalism, saying, “No one missed a beat. But it makes me realize that … am I missing a chip? Because we were going to keep this show going.”
Hager took the moment to celebrate the crew, praising them for their dedication to their work. “But anyway, it just shows you how hard our crew works around here every single day,” she said. “And they also put up with all of our antics, which are real annoying.”
Jenna Bush Hager’s April Fool’s Prank
Hager appeared to experience her own blunder on air when she fell in heels during a segment on the “Today” show on April 1. The segment was part of an April Fool’s prank and involved Hager, who was told by correspondent Arianna Davis Santana that they had a $20,000 cake that was going to appear on the show, Hello! reports.
Davis said, “They only make one of these every single day.” The producers brought Hager the cake, and she said, “Is it really heavy?” That is when the cake started to fall over, which was planned to trick guest co-host Willie Geist, but Hager ended up on the ground with it! It was all a joke, but Hager confirmed afterward that her fall was real. “I really committed…The fall was real,” she said.
A clip from the incident was shared on Instagram, and Davis shared how the shock she felt was real. “Y’all, my shocked reaction was real because Jenna was NOT supposed to fall like that,” she wrote.
Fan reactions included, “I knew it was fake and then I knew something didn’t go as planned,” “FULL commitment from JBH, as always,” and “I screamed at my desk!!!!”
