Jennifer Lawrence used her first-ever Instagram post to request kindness, warning fans that she won’t stick around if they’re not nice to her.
The “Silver Linings Playbook” star appeared looking fresh and makeup-free to tell her followers, who have reached nearly a million since she joined the app the day before, “So yeah. I’m giving it a shot. And if anyone says anything negative, I will quit immediately. No questions asked.”
Although she seemed serious, she became a bit more playful as she added, “If anyone thinks something mean, um, I’ll know. I’ll know. And I’ll quit.” Noah Schnapp, who gained fame playing Will Byers on “Stranger Things,” was one of the first people to react to Lawrence’s first post. He welcomed the star to Instagram by commenting, “This is the best day of my life.”
In her Stories, which are temporary posts that can be viewed by clicking on a user’s profile photo, she doubled down on her message. The Oscar winner wrote, “Please be mindful that any mean or aggressive comments can negatively affect the baby. It’s me. I’m the baby.”

The one social media site where she’d previously had a public presence was Facebook, where her team formerly maintained a page for updates.
Her first and last name has already been taken as a username by another user who happens to share her name, so Lawrence decided on going by the handle @jlaw. She remarked in her bio, “jenniferlawrence was taken.”
Although her new Instagram account is Lawrence’s first time using a social media account with her public identity, she’s no stranger to social media scrolling. The mom of two even admitted in a Fandango interview with her “Die My Love” costar Robert Pattinson that she indulges in the occasional TikTok fight, lighting up the comment sections with back-and-forth battles as part of her “secret” online life.

The 36-year-old shares two children with her art dealer husband, Cooke Maroney. born in 2022 and 2025.
In May 2025, she spoke out about how motherhood impacted her during the film of “Die My Love,” a dark drama about a new mom who descends into madness. Variety reports she said, “As a mother, it was really hard to separate what I would do as opposed to what she would do. And it was just heartbreaking.” She went on to point out how isolating the postpartum time can be, explaining it’s unlike anything else.
Lawrence also pointed that while not every mom experiences the physical isolation from loved ones her movie character does as a resident of rural Montana, “extreme anxiety and extreme depression is isolating, no matter where you are. You feel like an alien.”
The actress revealed she faced postpartum depression after the birth of her second child, and turned to a medication called Zurzuvae, which she says helped her quickly feel better after two weeks.
