Leonardo DiCaprio Gets Candid About How He Really Feels About Turning 50

For many, 50 feels like a milestone you tiptoe toward. It’s a number that can spark more dread than celebration. But for Leonardo DiCaprio, hitting the half-century mark has brought clarity, honesty, and a surprising sense of youth. DiCaprio admits he feels younger than the number on his birthday cake.

Speaking with โ€œOne Battle After Anotherโ€ director Paul Thomas Anderson for Esquire‘s Mavericks of Hollywood issue, Anderson asked the actor to quickly answer, โ€œIf you didnโ€™t know how old you are, how old are you right now?โ€ Without hesitation, DiCaprio replied, โ€œThirty-two.โ€

When asked whether turning 50 last year has made him reflect more on life, the Oscar winner said it made him want โ€œto just be more honest and not waste your time.โ€

DiCaprio credited his mom, Irmelin, as a major influence, saying she โ€œjust says exactly what she thinks and wastes no timeโ€ and that she has no interest in โ€œfaking it.โ€ For him, that means being more direct in every area of life, be it personal or professional. It also means risking disagreements or parting ways. โ€œYou just donโ€™t want to waste your time anymore,โ€ he explained.

The actor has been in Hollywood since the late 1980s, breaking through with 1993โ€™s โ€œWhatโ€™s Eating Gilbert Grape,โ€ which earned him his first Oscar nomination at 19. Heโ€™s since been nominated six more times, winning Best Actor for โ€œThe Revenantโ€ in 2016.

The Movie He Rewatches the Most

While DiCaprio says he rarely watches his own movies, one stands out: 2004โ€™s โ€œThe Aviator.โ€ The film was a passion project he carried for a decade before bringing it to Martin Scorsese after a scheduling conflict with Michael Mann.

โ€œI was 30. It was the first time as an actor I got to feel implicitly part of the production, rather than just an actor hired to play a role,โ€ he recalled. โ€œIโ€™ve always felt proud and connected to that film as such a key part of my growing up in this industry.โ€

Inside DiCaprio & Vittoria Cerettiโ€™s Romance: From Cannes Meeting to European Getaways

DiCaprio and model Vittoria Ceretti reportedly met at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival during the premiere of Martin Scorseseโ€™s โ€œKillers of the Flower Moon.โ€

The two were first linked romantically that August after speculation about DiCaprioโ€™s connection to Gigi Hadid.

Since then, theyโ€™ve been spotted on multiple getaways, including aboard Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sรกnchezโ€™s honeymoon yacht, where they mingled with stars like Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom, Sean Penn, and Brooks Nader.

While Ceretti has been photographed wearing a ring on her left hand, sources have shut down engagement buzz, saying the couple has no wedding plans for now.

Before dating DiCaprio, Ceretti was married to Italian DJ Matteo Milleri of Tale of Us from 2020 to 2023 and was briefly linked to model-turned-actor Nathan Westling.
