Matthew McConaughey is opening up about the surprising strategy that has kept his 13-year marriage to Camila Alves McConaughey strong — and it all comes down to their bed.
The Oscar winner, 55, revealed in a recent interview with Fox News Digital that one of the most important changes he and his wife made at home was swapping out their bed for a smaller size.

“I wake up one morning … I’m looking over there, and Camila’s like a football field away, man. Then you go to bed at night, like, you want to snuggle up and … ‘Well, we’ve got to cover you up. Come about 12 feet, and I’ll come 12 feet,’” McConaughey said.
The actor, who published his book “Poems & Prayers” earlier this year, explained that making the switch from a king-size bed to a queen-size made all the difference in maintaining their closeness.
“You’re like, man, this damn king-size bed is not good for the marriage, man. Get rid of that son of a b—-,” he said. “So we got a queen-size, where we’re shoulder to shoulder. I’m telling you, it’s good for your marriage.”
McConaughey also spoke about the importance of prioritizing his relationship with Alves even while raising their three children — Levi, 17, Vida, 15, and Livingston, 12.
“You’ve got kids, so you don’t … you’re spending as much time being a good mother and father of them, but you also gotta make sure — and I can do a better job of this — of going, ‘No, this is our time,’” he said.
The actor stressed that showing children a healthy partnership is just as important as being present parents.
“You can’t 100% live with the kids as a parent,” McConaughey explained. “You gotta make to remember that one of the best examples you can give the kids of how to treat a woman or a man or how to [treat] someone they end up falling in love with down the line is how you treat their mother and how the mother treats the father.”

McConaughey and Alves met in 2006 at a Los Angeles nightclub, where he says he was immediately captivated.
“She showed up, and she moved right to left in front of my eyes across that club,” he told People in a previous interview. “It was as if she was floating. And I did not say, ‘Who is that?’ I said, ‘What is that?’ And then introduced myself.”
They became engaged in 2011 after several years together and married in June 2012 following a six-month engagement.
“Since that evening, I have not wanted to spend time with any other woman,” McConaughey told People. “We have a love that we never question.”
The pair has continued to share glimpses of their life as a family while splitting their time between Los Angeles and Texas. McConaughey has also been candid about stepping back from Hollywood for periods of time to focus on his marriage, family, and their Texas ranch.
