The search for Nancy Guthrie has now reached the fourth week, and Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos provided an update, saying that the investigation is “still growing.”
In an interview with NBC News on Friday, Feb. 20, Nanos acknowledged that he understands the public’s frustration with the lack of results.
“In terms of leads and working and getting out there, I think that’s still growing, yeah,” he said. “It’s never fast enough for the sheriff. I want it like you: ‘Come on, guys, let’s go, let’s go, let’s find her.’ But the reality is that I also know that sometimes things take time.”
But with that, he sent a very important message to everyone.
“We’re not quitting,” he said. “We’ll find her. Yeah.”
Nancy has been missing since Feb. 1, after having been last seen on Jan. 31 when she was dropped off at her home in Tucson, Arizona.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos Says DNA Evidence Could Take ‘Months’ To Sort Through
In an interview with Fox News, Nanos also provided a crucial update on the DNA evidence that was found in Nancy Guthrie’s home.
“Our lab tells us that there are challenges with it,” Nanos said of the Florida lab. “The technology is moving so fast and in such a frenzy that they think some of this stuff will resolve itself just in a matter of weeks, months, or maybe a year.”
They further added that it’s “unclear whether the DNA recovered inside Guthrie’s has been useful for the investigation,” as the samples are from “more than one person, making it harder to run through national databases.”
Volunteers Recover Backpack, But It’s Not Related To Nancy Guthrie Investigation
GettyOn Sunday, volunteers came together near Nancy’s Arizona home and found a backpack, which was handed over to deputies.
Senior National Correspondent Brian Entin of NewsNation shared a video, writing, “Volunteer searchers are canvassing the neighborhood around Nancy Guthrie’s house. They found a backpack that does not match the one in the surveillance video – but deputies came and picked it up. One searcher got emotional, saying her mom is around Nancy’s age.”
However, one day after the backpack was discovered, Nanos provided an update on how this relates to Nancy’s disappearance. According to The Today Show, which addressed this on its Monday, February 23, broadcast, the backpack found is not the one authorities are looking for, which the suspect wore in Ring doorbell camera footage.
