Legendary director Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead inside their Brentwood home Sunday afternoon, according to TMZ. The couple died on Sunday, December 14, when first responders were called to the residence to provide medical aid and found them deceased.
Multiple sources later told People that their son, Nick Reiner, was involved, as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the loss that has shaken Hollywood.
TMZ reported that law enforcement sources told the outlet that two bodies discovered at the residence were identified as the Reiners, with investigators noting lacerations consistent with a knife as the LAPD’s Robbery Homicide Division continues its investigation.
GettyAs the entertainment world reels from the sudden deaths of Rob, 78, and Michele, 68, attention has turned to their son Nick, whose life has been shaped by both an extraordinary Hollywood legacy and a deeply personal struggle.
Nick Reiner’s Life Shaped by Legacy & Struggle
Born in 1993, Nick is the grandson of comedy legend Carl Reiner and grew up surrounded by Hollywood history. Despite that legacy, his early life was marked by a long battle with substance abuse that began in his teens.
He has spoken openly about entering rehab as young as 15 and later experiencing periods of homelessness while grappling with addiction. Those experiences would later shape his creative voice and public story.
Nick Reiner Turned Pain Into Storytelling With ‘Being Charlie’
Nick eventually channeled his struggles into storytelling by co-writing the semi-autobiographical 2016 film “Being Charlie” with his father.
The film explores addiction, recovery, and the complicated dynamics between parents and children facing substance abuse.
His work has been widely praised for its honesty and emotional clarity, highlighting resilience and accountability as he grew up in a famous family and fought very real demons.
The Family Legacy Nick Reiner Carries Forward
Rob was the son of Carl Reiner, who died in 2020, and began his own career as a comedy writer in the 1960s, including work on “The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour.”
He later became a household name as Michael Stivic, also known as “Meathead,” on “All in the Family,” before directing classics such as “This Is Spinal Tap,” “Stand by Me,” “The Princess Bride,” and “When Harry Met Sally…”
Rob met Michele while directing “When Harry Met Sally…” and the two married in 1989. Together, they had three children, Jake, Nick, and Romy.
Rob also had a daughter, Tracy, with his former wife, Penny Marshall, who died in 2018.

Rest in peace.
Rest in the power of peace and condolence to there love ones they left behind and friends….🙏🏿🙌🏾✝️🕊🪽🕊🪽🕊🪽
The young man in those photos is not Nick Reiner, but Nick Robinson who portrayed Charlie, the character based on Nick Reiner in the film Being Charlie.
Thank you… I thought he looked familiar, and as I looked, I was thinking he looks nothing like his mother or father. Now that makes perfect sense.
Wrong. The photos of the young man sitting by RR is his son, Nick. The actor Nick, is in the phonto of the Movie poster. They look much a like. Nick Reiner has the black glasses.
Holding all the Reiners in the Light.
We’ve lost a uniquely talented artist. The Reiners both talented and so loved by many… RIP you will be missed by many broken hearted ppl

Sad and truly tragic deaths.
You people sure you don’t want to blame Charlie Kirk and MAGA for these deaths?! Maybe Trump ordered it, fools! Rob’s Son murdered him, maybe he could have raised his son better?!
No need for hatefulness.
May you rest in peace
is this really the time for this? Honestly? People have died, show a bit of decorum.
Then again asking a Trump supporter to show any respect is like getting blood from a stone. You should be genuinely, actually ashamed of yourself. Absolutely ashamed.
foff
Rob Reiner & his wife passed away….. It’s pretty messed up that ya’ll can’t help yourselves from involving Trumps name & maga supporters with this article.. Ya’ll truly are full of misguided hatred for someone who,…mmm,
has done nothing but try & fix what the previous administration destroyed & there was alot. If your still denying that then you are part of the problem… What the hell happened to our country? There are not 100 genders & there is no reason for our kids to get out of bed & go find a job. America has turned to shit & its our fault. We allowed crooked career polititians rob us blind & brainwash half of this country. Sad but true. At least trump is trying. Nobody else has even tried. Quit fighting & start doing. If we dont take back what we had we’re doomed…. political correctness is killing us & we’re close to being destroyed from within.
Your comment proves Hillary Clinton was RIGHT in reference to Trump’s supporters. Shame on you but you represent Trump well don’t you?
You are a typical MAGA moron. You all lack empathy. Such trash.
Are you quite well? I can’t make out what such a nasty comment even means!
I suppose your name handle explains the apparent detachment from reality? Shame on you!
May the Reiner’s rest in peace, and comfort be accorded to all who loved them 🙏🏾
You seem to know a lot about this “alleged” murder. Maybe the police should investigate you for having knowledge of the situation.
Amen
Absolutely hilarious that liberal ignorance will actually be upset about a Trump supporter not kissing the ring of a liberal nut job who was killed by his crazy offspring …
Just a few WEEKS after the liberal nutjobs FLOODED social media with words of absolute HATE over Charlie Kirk being ASSASSINATED.
Only in Pappy Obammy’s circle of acolytes could this wilful ignorance be on full display.
This story is a sad story. The family just had a horrendous tragedy, let them mourn without comments about someone “opinions”
