Like many families across the country, comedian Pete Davidson was personally impacted by the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
The beloved “Saturday Night Live” alum is the son of Scott Matthew Davidson, a proud New York firefighter stationed at Ladder Company 118 in Brooklyn Heights. Davidson was working the morning of September 11, 2001. Though he and five other firefighters didn’t hesitate to answer the call for help, they all tragically perished that day.
As the 25th anniversary of the attacks nears, Pete Davidson is reflecting on his father’s legacy and memory.
Pete Davidson Continues Honoring His Father After His Passing
GettyPete Davidson was just 7-years-old when he lost his father. Now that he has a daughter of his own, he thinks of his father very differently.
“I thought, ‘Oh, he was an old guy. He’s 33,'” the “Saturday Night Live” alum told the New York Post. “But now I’m there, and I have a kid, and that would be like my kid not having her dad.”
Davidson and his ex-partner, Elsie Hewitt, welcomed their daughter in December 2025. They named her Scottie, in honor of Scott Matthew Davidson.
“So this year is extra tough, but also extra beautiful because I get to spend the day with Scottie. It’ll be very healing and special,” the actor added.
“It was really cool that Elsie also wanted to name her Scottie,” Davidson revealed. “My dad’s name was Scott, but his nickname was Scotty. When she arrived, we both looked at her and were like, ‘She looks like a Scottie.’ It’s nice to keep that name alive.”
Pete Davidson Feels His Father With Their Family
Though Scottie will never meet her grandfather, Pete Davidson believes his father’s presence lingers.
“When Scottie was first born, we’d give her a bath in the sink, and there’s a picture of my dad above the sink. She would always stare at it,” the 32-year-old shared.
“You’re like, ‘I don’t know if that’s because that’s the only picture there and she’s brand new and just observing things.’ But then I moved back to Brooklyn and put the picture in a different location. When I walk around, Scottie always turns her head and looks at him,” he added, noting that he likes to believe his father’s presence is still with them.
The Actor Will Share Fond Memories With His Daughter
As Scottie grows older, she will learn more about the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Pete Davidson knows the topic is unavoidable and has been thinking of the best way to approach the subject.
“Luckily, I have some time,” Davidson continued. “Honestly, this year is way harder than it’s been in a really long time because I have Scottie, and now I’m the age that my dad was when he died. So I’m just kind of like, ‘Holy [expletive].'”
Though the painful memories persist, Pete Davidson told the New York Post that he can’t wait to tell Scottie about her grandfather.
“I have old videos and pictures and stuff, and I’m excited to share the classic stories I have of him with her,” the comedian added.
