“Saturday Night Live” alum Pete Davidson lost his father, Scott Matthew Davidson, on September 11, 2001. He was a New York City firefighter who bravely answered the call for help after the terrorist attacks that morning. Tragically, he and five other firefighters lost their lives that day.
As the 25th anniversary of 9/11 nears, Pete Davidson is reflecting on the legacy his father left behind. Though his daughter will never meet her grandfather in this lifetime, he can’t wait to share his favorite memories with her.
Pete Davidson Named His Daughter in Honor of His Late Father
Actor Pete Davidson and his then-girlfriend, Elsie Hewitt, welcomed a daughter in December 2025. They split shortly after the birth, but agreed on a beautiful name for the little girl.
They called her Scottie, in honor of Davidson’s late father.
“It was really cool that Elsie also wanted to name her Scottie,” the comedian told the New York Post. “My dad’s name was Scott, but his nickname was Scotty. When she arrived, we both looked at her and were like, ‘She looks like a Scottie.’ It’s nice to keep that name alive.”
The 32-year-old laments that Scottie will never get to meet her namesake. However, he revealed that the baby girl seems drawn to her grandfather’s photo.
“When Scottie was first born, we’d give her a bath in the sink, and there’s a picture of my dad above the sink. She would always stare at it,” he recalled.
“You’re like, ‘I don’t know if that’s because that’s the only picture there and she’s brand new and just observing things.’ But then I moved back to Brooklyn and put the picture in a different location. When I walk around, Scottie always turns her head and looks at him,” Davidson continued.
“I don’t know what I believe in, but I like to think that his presence is somehow around,” he added.
The Comedian Will Focus on His Family on 9/11 This Year
Scottie Davidson will celebrate her first birthday this December. However, Pete Davidson knows he will have to explain their family’s loss someday.
“Luckily, I have some time,” the SNL alum told the New York Post. “Honestly, this year is way harder than it’s been in a really long time because I have Scottie, and now I’m the age that my dad was when he died. So I’m just kind of like, ‘Holy [expletive].’”
Though Pete Davidson misses his father every day, he’s excited to share his memory with Scottie as she grows up.
“I have old videos and pictures and stuff, and I’m excited to share the classic stories I have of him with her,” he told the outlet.
In honor of the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Pete Davidson and Jon Stewart will host a comedy relief benefit at Madison Square Garden on September 10. The pair will donate the proceeds to organizations designed to support 9/11 first responders and their families.
