The passing of Rob and Michele Reiner still weighs heavily on the hearts of many, as the legendary director and his wife were killed on Sunday, December 14, with their son Nick Reiner, being accused of their murder.
Shortly after this heartbreaking incident, it was reported that it all began at Conan O’Brien’s home, with Rob getting into a fight with his son. The comedian has not spoken out much about this tragedy, but in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter that was published on Mar. 9, O’Brien didn’t hold back.
“Very simply, we had a party, we invited our really good friends and then, the next day, this terrible thing happened,” he said. “Whatever difficulties my wife and I have experienced having our name attached to it are nothing compared to the scale of the tragedy for the family and the loss of Rob and Michele.”
“If you’re a known person, your name is going to get dragged into things sometimes,” he added, “but it is not a hardship. There is only sadness that they’re gone.”
Conan O’Brien Remembers Rob Reiner As ‘Larger Than Life”
In interview with David Remnick of The New Yorker in February, O’Brien spoke about his friendship with Rob Reiner, remembering him for his incredible contributions on and off the screen.
“These people are so larger than life, especially if you’ve grown up watching them or appreciating their work. I mean, I just keep mulling over… the body of work, I think it’s seven movies that Rob Reiner made, in quick succession, that are classics,” O’Brien detailed. “Now, if you can make one great movie, that’s impressive. It’s an almost impossible feat. To make two means that you’re one of the greats. To make seven—in, like, a nine-year, ten-year, eleven-year period—is insanity.”
Rob & Michele Reiner Were Warned About Their Son Before The Tragedy

In a recent report from US Weekly, providing more details about Rob and Michele’s death, sources spoke about Nick’s mental health leading up to the murders. And according to one source, Rob and Michele were “warned” about their son.
“The medical staff warned Rob and Michele not to let Nick live at home until he got his medication straightened out,” the source told the outlet, adding that Nick fired his psychiatrist and changed medications shortly before. Nick had been living in the guest house.
A source also detailed how Rob and Michele were trying to help their son with his medication as “they weren’t working anymore.”
