Filmmaker Rob Reiner, who was responsible for beloved films including “Spinal Tap,” “When Harry Met Sally,” and “A Few Good Men,” has died. Reiner and his wife of almost four decades, Michele Singer, were found deceased at their home in Brentwood, California, on Sunday, December 14.
It was their daughter, Romy Reiner, who discovered their bodies and called for medical assistance, People reports. Reiner was 78, and Singer was 68.
Their son Jake Reiner received numerous messages from friends and fans on social media in the aftermath of the family tragedy.
Jake Reiner Flooded With Messages From Fans
The couple, who had been married since 1989, leave behind three shared children. Their oldest son is Jake Reiner, who was born in 1991.
The death of Reiner and Singer has been met with an outpouring of love and sadness. The tragic circumstances have also heightened the case as family sources told People it was the couple’s son, Nick Reiner, born in 1993, who killed them. A homicide investigation is underway.
There has been some confusion among fans who have flooded Jake’s social media with messages, both of support and also questions about his potential involvement in his parents’ death. However, there has been no suggestion by authorities or media that Jake was in any way involved. “Everyone stop flooding his comments with blame, you have the wrong son. He just lost his parents, control yourselves,” a comment reads.
More supportive messages include, “Sending you so much love right now. We are grieving with you,” “My deepest condolences on the loss of your parents. It all sounds unbelievably horrific. I’m so sorry you are experiencing this tragedy,” and “My sincere condolences to you. I am so sorry. How tragic & horrific. My heart is breaking for you.”
The couple’s daughter, Romy Reiner, was born in 1997. Rob was also a father to actress Tracy Reiner, whom he adopted during his marriage to his first wife, Penny Marshall.
Who Is Jake Reiner?
Not much is known about Reiner and Singer’s children, but Jake has followed in his father’s footsteps and chosen a career in the entertainment industry. He is an actor. He was also close to his dad, sharing a bond over baseball.
They enjoyed many baseball events together, but their most cherished memory was visiting the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. “We sat down in this theater there and they start showing the history of when Black players first came into the league. I’m sitting there next to Jake and I’m just tearing up,” Robert recalled in a 2023 interview with People. “The lights come up and we hear that this exhibit is new. It’s designed to make a grown man cry. I said, ‘Wow. You succeeded because the whole idea of fathers passing the game down to their sons was beautiful and personal. My dad passed it to me and now I’m sitting here passing it to him.”

Wish there had been a family therapist working with this family where nonviolent solutions could have been found for internal conflict or a better solution found for a disturbed member suffering from adiction and related nental illness. Addiction is often related to attempts at self cure for depression or related disorders.
