“He was larger than life to the world, but to his family, he was simply that … family,” Conor wrote. “Rest in peace, Grandpa.🐎”

Conor also invited fans to share personal stories about Redford. “If anyone has a favorite story of him you’d like to share, please send it to me in a private message — I’d love to collect them.”

Both joy and loss shaped Redford’s family life. He and his first wife, historian Lola Van Wagenen, married in 1958 and welcomed four children: Scott, Shauna, James, and Amy. Their first child, Scott, tragically died of sudden infant death syndrome at just two months old in 1959.

James followed in his father’s footsteps as a filmmaker and philanthropist before passing away in 2020 at age 58 from bile-duct cancer. Today, Shauna works as an artist, while Amy has built her own career as an actress and director.
