Sophia Bush Gives Honest Update About ‘One Tree Hill’ Reboot

Over two decades after “One Tree Hill” first premiered, fans are still holding out hope for a return to Tree Hill.

During a recent red carpet interview with Cassie DiLaura from Entertainment Tonight at the annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party, series star Sophia Bush shed some light on the long-rumored revival of the beloved teen drama.

While appearing alongside her girlfriend, former U.S. soccer star Ashlyn Harris, Bush was asked directly whether a sequel or reboot of the series is still in the works. She seemingly confirmed it on social media a couple of years ago, but things seems to have changed.

The “Chicago P.D.” star remains optimistic about the idea, but said the realities of today’s media landscape may be slowing things down.

“We have done such great work and it’s been really incredible to see the way every single person in our cast got excited about that phone call,” Bush said, referring to early discussions about revisiting the show.

But ultimately, the industry as a whole plays a large role in whether the project moves forward, she said.

“I would say that we’re all very aware of what’s happening to the media right now and who media is being bought by,” Bush said. According to TV Insider, Bush was likely referencing Paramount’s acquisition of Warner Bros. after outbidding Netflix.

It should be noted that last year, Austin Nichols—who plays Julian Baker on the show—revealed a deal was made with Netflix for the possible revival.

“I don’t know that any of us are the current media conglomerates’ best friends or favorite people. But I’m OK with that,” she added.

All in all, Bush summed the reboot conversation up with: “I’m patient if nothing else. That’s the classiest way I can say it.”

Harris chimed in, “That was a long-winded way of, ‘You’ll have to wait and see.'”

Bush revealed that the possibility of revisiting Tree Hill sparked immediate enthusiasm among the show’s former cast members.

According to “Brooke Davis,” many of her co-stars began imagining about the lives’ of their “One Tree Hill” characters.

“We had amazing ideas about where their characters would be, what stories they’d want to explore,” Bush said in the red carpet interview.

In Nichols’ update last year, he said in a red carpet interview that the project “is in a really good place.”

“I don’t have all the answers,” he said, “but I know they’ve been working on it for a long time. They made a deal with Netflix, and they’re working on the scripts. Netflix has to approve some before giving the green light. I know there’s been some notes going back and forth, so it’s in a healthy place.”
