Fans of early-2000s teen movies might be surprised to learn that two of the era’s most beloved films were being made at the exact same time—and their casts were constantly crossing paths.
During a recent appearance on the Chicks in the Office podcast, actress Arielle Kebbel revealed that the cast of “John Tucker Must Die,” which she starred in, was filming at the exact same time—and basically the same place—as another iconic teen comedy: “She’s the Man” starring Amanda Bynes.
GettyEven wilder? The casts weren’t just working nearby. According to Kebbel, the 20-something actors from the 2006 movies in question were living in the same hotel, hanging out all the time, and roaming the Vancouver, Canada, area together like one giant “herd.”
“So it’s a really good thing that Instagram didn’t exist,” Kebbel joked.
‘John Tucker Must Die’ & ‘She’s the Man’ Casts Moved Around Vancouver ‘Like a Herd’
GettyKebbel, 41, who is also known for her roles in “The Vampire Diaries,” “Gilmore Girls,” and “90210,” said both movie productions overlapped while filming in Canada, which meant the young actors from both movies frequently crossed paths.
“There was about 20 of us and we just, like, moved as a herd,” Kebbel said.
She added that all the actors—including stars Brittany Snow, Sophia Bush, Ashanti, Jesse Metcalfe, Penn Badgley, Amanda Bynes, and Channing Tatum—stayed in the same hotel, the Sutton Place.

The group often made their way around Vancouver together—at clubs, at dinner, and even in each other’s hotel rooms.
“Like you would see us walking down the street and just like a line of 20. Like we literally moved in a herd,” Kebbel recalled.
Arielle Kebbel: Filming ‘John Tucker Must Die’ & ‘She’s the Man’ Felt Like ‘Summer Camp’
GettyThe overlap between the two productions led to frequent visits between set and plenty of social gatherings off-camera.
“We would go visit their set,” Kebbel said. “They would come visit our set. I mean, it was atrocious.”
The “John Tucker Must Die” star compared the experience to a summer camp-environment, with the young cast members spending a lot of time together.
“On the weekends, we would all have a party in someone’s hotel room. … People would being guitars and play music,” Kebbel added.
Despite how memorable the experience was for the actors involved, Kebbel noted that many fans might not have realized “John Tucker Must Die” and “She’s the Man” were happening side-by-side.
“I don’t think I’ve really talked about it,” she said.
Sophia Bush Weighs in on ‘John Tucker Must Die’ Filming
GettyWhen the “Chicks in the Office” shared the clip from Kebbel’s appearance on the podcast, fellow “John Tucker Must Die” star Sophia Bush joined in on the reminiscing.
“The fact that restaurants in Vancouver didn’t bag up on us when we’d call and ask for ‘a table for 19, Saturday at 8pm’ still blows my mind 😂🥰,” the “One Tree Hill” alum wrote.
Other fans in the comments were absolutely blown away by the realization.
“This is an incredible fun fact,” one user wrote.
“The lore I never knew I needed for my millennial heart,” said another.
“I feel like there’s a handheld digital camera in the junk drawer of an actor’s parents’ house with literal gold on it from this time,” someone else chimed in.
