Sydney Sweeney Wants to Fight in Charity Boxing Match: ‘I Can Take a Punch’

Sydney Sweeney is ready to channel Christy Martin in real life.

The actress, who portrays the boxing legend in the biopic “Christy,” revealed that she’s seriously considering stepping into a real boxing ring to fight for a cause.

In an interview with SportsCasting, Sweeney, 28, said she fell in love with the sport while shooting the film.

“There was a moment in the middle of filming where I was like, ‘Should I give it all up and fight because I love this?’” Sweeney told the outlet.

Christy Martin Wants to Be Sydney Sweeney’s Promoter

Sweeney confirmed that the idea of stepping into the ring could actually happen. The “Euphoria” actress revealed that Christy herself is supportive of it and offers to sign her up.

“Christy said she’d sign me up. So, this isn’t as hypothetical as you actually think it is,” Sweeney added. “Yeah, I’d totally do a charity bout, that’d be so sick.”

When asked who her potential opponent might be, the actress isn’t tipping her hand.

“It’s a surprise, you’ll have to wait, I’m serious,” Sweeney teased. “You gotta stay tuned for the pay-per-view and you’ll see it.”

Meanwhile, Christy also told SportsCasting that she wants to be Sweeney’s promoter.

“I have some names that we can’t throw out yet,” the boxer teased, referring to Sweeney’s possible opponents.

Sweeney’s Intense Boxing Training

Sweeney isn’t someone to take lightly in the ring, whether it’s on-screen or in real life. In the same interview, the actress revealed she’s been training really hard daily for over two months.

“For about two and a half months, I would weight train in the morning for an hour, box three hours in the middle of the day, and then another hour of weight training at night,” Sweeney told SportsCasting. “I put on 35 pounds and it was hard. I started losing weight once I upped my boxing time and had to find that balance, just continually pounding more and more protein shakes.”

The actress is especially proud of her left hook, which she practiced daily during training.

“I loved it. I worked hardest on that left hook,” Sweeney added. “And I think what would get me through a fight is that I can take a punch. I wouldn’t quit.”

Although she has yet to receive any offers for an actual bout, Sweeney told the outlet that she’s “gotten some interesting DMs from some boxers.”

“Christy” opens in theaters on November 7.
