Fans are eagerly awaiting “The Rookie” Season 8, and ahead of its Tuesday, January 6 release, stars Nathan Fillion and Jenna Dewan are opening up about what happened on set while filming scenes in Prague.
Cast Member Hospitalized
In an interview with People, published on January 5, Fillion, who plays John Nolan, and Dewan, who plays Bailey Nune, discussed their characters and the involvement of Bridget Regan’s character, defense lawyer Monica Stevens. “I think it just frustrates Nolan to no end that someone so criminal and so terrible and so smug about it can get away with it. She’s not doing hard time,” Fillion said of Regan’s character.
Getty“And she kind of knows it. She plays with it. There’s a sense of, ‘You can’t get rid of me,’ and, ‘I’m untouchable, and now I have an immunity deal, so you can’t do anything about it,’” Dewan shared.
The dynamics between these three characters is going to make for some interesting television, and Fillion and Dewan revealed that the experience of filming in Europe had been “incredible.” But they also shared that Regan was hospitalized. “Bridget got food poisoning,” Fillion said. “So she spent a little time in the hospital.”
The Wonderful Experience of Filming in Prague
Although the incident was undoubtedly unpleasant for Regan, Fillion and Dewan shared their excitement about being able to film on location. “I do think they were happy for us, but I’m sure we’re sending our pictures of the bridges and these gorgeous locations, they’re probably like, ‘Oh man, next time,’” Fillion said of his co-stars, who did not make the trip, including Eric Winter, Melissa O’Neil, and Richard T. Jones. “But everyone, honestly, we have the nicest people on this show. The kindest, nicest, most supportive people.”
Dewan, a mom of two, also shared her excitement about getting to spend some time just “living.”
“I was the busiest because I went sans kids,” she shared. “So I was — every free moment I had — living. We went to dinners. We did tours. I felt like I finally matured to the point where I wanted to do tours all day long.” Of the experience, she said, “It just felt so special. It felt like we were in the midst of a film, an action film. It was so cool.”
Regan teased Season 8 in an Instagram post on November 13, 2025, and fans could not be more excited that the storyline continues to involve her. Bring on “The Rookie” Season 8!

And so begins the slow descent of the show, going to Europe is always a sign that the writers are running out of ideas. Look at 911, they’ve done a POSEIDON episode and an outerspace episode with their one woman LA police dept character, will this show also be doing these same desperate scripts?
