How Tommy Lee Jones Tried to Save His Daughter Victoria Before She Passed

Tommy Lee Jones, 79, reportedly made a big legal move to try to protect his daughter, Victoria Jones, before her untimely death on Jan. 1, when she was found unresponsive at the Fairmont San Francisco Hotel.

According to court records obtained by People, the Oscar Award winner filed to place Victoria on a conservatorship, which requires the person to follow a set of rules based on their personal and care needs, decided by their appointed guardian, regardless of their age.

In the docket entries from Marin County Superior Court, Jones filed a petition on Aug. 7, 2023, to place a temporary conservatorship over Victoria, who was 31 years old at the time.

People reported that the court index reveals how the “Black Moon Rising” actor submitted a “Petition for Appointment of Temporary Conservator of the Person.”

With that, Jones included supporting declarations. He also submitted an ex parte application, meaning the person who is filed against does not need to be aware of the filing on the grounds of an emergency situation.

Within days, a judge approved the request and appointed a professional temporary conservator to oversee Victoria’s personal care. Further docket entries revealed that the conservatorship was later extended on a short-term basis.

The docket didn’t specify the circumstances that led Jones to file for a conservatorship. Medical and hospital records, as well as the contents of the court-submitted declarations, were also unavailable, as such documents are, in most cases, confidential in conservatorship filings.

Tommy Lee Jones Spotted for the First Time Since Daughter’s Passing

After Victoria’s death at the age of 34, TMZ obtained Broadcastify dispatch audio from the 911 call placed to authorities. The audio said that a “code 3 for the overdose, color change” was ordered.

Since her tragic passing on New Year’s Day, Jones has been seen in public, appearing downcast as he walked with his wife, Dawn Laurel-Jones, in San Antonio, Texas, nearly two weeks later.

Having made attempts to protect Victoria from her unexpected fate, the “Men in Black” actor is said to be handling her death the best he can. A source close to the family told Daily Mail that Jones is “not himself right now,” adding, “Tommy is heartbroken. For a tough guy and one that usually has it all together, the stress of losing a child has clearly hit him like a ton of bricks.”

  1. Having lost a son at his age 30 from a devastating stroke, I can tell you that you never get over losing a child, whatever their age. The pain lessens but never goes away completely. I wish Mr. Jones all my love and support wherever his journey takes him.
