“The Real Housewives of Orange County” star Gina Kirschenheiter made an emotional announcement on March 18, 2025, when she revealed that her ex-husband Matt Kirschenheiter had a heart attack.

Gina shared the news with fans on Instagram, showing herself in the hospital with Matt. In the caption, she shared her thoughts. “Wow. We had a scary weekend! Matt (the kiddos dad) suffered a heart attack Saturday,” she wrote. “He’s only 40 years old!!”
Also in the photos were their children. Gina and Matt share three children: their daughter, Sienna, and sons Nicholas and Luca. Photos show Sienna posing for a photo with her dad and hugging him. Gina shared that their children were “very shaken up” but grateful that he had been discharged from the hospital, and they were “so happy to have their dad back.”
In the caption, Gina also thanked Matt’s wife, Britt Kirschenheiter, for taking action so quickly. “Thank god Britt rushed him to the hospital and all the hospital staff acted quickly!” she wrote.
At the time, fans and fellow “Real Housewives” stars reacted to the post with an outpouring of love. But how is Matt doing now, almost six months later?
How Gina Kirschenheiter’s Ex-Husband Is Doing Now
The answer to the question about Matt’s health was revealed on his Instagram account just days later. On March 23, Matt updated fans with a two-part video, informing them about what had happened to him and bringing awareness to heart disease.
“I never thought I’d be saying this, but at 40 years old, I had a heart attack. It was the scariest moment of my life, but I’m beyond grateful to be here to share my story,” he wrote in the caption. “I want to bring awareness to the reality that heart disease doesn’t care about age. Listen to your body, take your health seriously, and don’t ignore the signs.”
He also thanked everyone who had helped him and shown him kindness.
In the second part of the message, which was also posted on Instagram, Matt discussed his recovery. He referred to it as a “journey.”
“I’ve never felt more thankful to wake up every day. This experience has given me a whole new perspective on life, love, and the people who show up when it matters most,” he added. “If you’re reading this, let this be your reminder to check in on your health. Get that physical, manage stress, move your body, and appreciate the moments that truly matter.”
On August 10, Matt posted a photo on Instagram of himself and Britt dressed up to attend a wedding. He looks very well. Gina reacted to the post, writing, “Looking great!!”
Other reactions include, “So great to see you both,” “Total smoke show,” and “great picture.”
Britt’s Instagram account is also filled with photos and videos of Matt and their lives. The last post she made of Matt was on August 26, and it shows him washing pots. Fans praised the post for being “sexy” and informed Britt that she was “one lucky lady.”
Matt appears to be happy and in excellent health!
