As Teddi Mellencamp navigates her cancer journey, she’s happy to be spending time with her family to mark a special occasion. “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” alum is celebrating her daughter, Dove, on the little one’s sixth birthday, and did so by noting what she went through when she was just a baby and how far she’s come.
“Happy birthday to my miracle baby,” Teddi wrote in the caption of an Instagram post that she shared on Wednesday, February 25. “The strength and resilience you have shown since you came into this world is something I have learned to use in my own fight.”
“And now at 6, you’re teaching us all how to enjoy life to the fullest while being your unabashed self,” Teddi continued. “I am still so sorry I was in the hospital and missed your 5th party; but dang you don’t know how grateful I am to be at this one.”
She finished her note by writing, “Love you so much, Dovey Doo. Hope this year is your best yet ❤️”
Teddi Mellencamp Included Moving Photos of Herself with Dove
Along with the birthday message, Teddi included two photos of herself with Dove. The first pic shows the mother holding her daughter when she was much younger. In a hospital, Dove’s head is wrapped up following neurosurgery.
The second photo is a more recent shot of the pair, with Teddi standing behind her daughter, who is wearing a tiara and making a heart shape with her hands.
Teddi Mellencamp Explained Why Dove Needed Neurosurgery
Teddi first addressed the health issue that Dove was facing on July 6, 2020. Taking to Instagram, she wrote, “I was torn as to whether I should share this information, but as someone who tries to be as transparent as possible, and knowing I have a platform to reach others in similar situations, I would like to update you all.”
“Our sweet baby Dove was diagnosed with Lambdoid Craniosynostosis and has to undergo neurosurgery at the end of the month,” she wrote. She also explained that “Lambdoid craniosynostosis is a very rare type of non-syndromic craniosynostosis and occurs when one of the lambdoid sutures at the back of the head fuses before birth.”
“The recovery is about a week in the hospital and a couple weeks at home with a very high success rate,” Teddi continued. “So although we are filled with nerves as neurosurgery sounds scary, we have our faith that she will be ok. Please keep baby Dove in your prayers … Sending 💕 to you all.”
