Julia Fox Opens Up About Parenting Her 4-Year-Old Son

“Uncut Gems” actor and reality show host Julia Fox is getting candid about how she parents her 4-year-old son, Valentino. “I think you just need to raise your boys the same way you raise your girls,” Fox shared with Us Weekly.

“I feel like we put so much pressure on our girls, and we fill their heads with so much more cautionary tales,” she continued. “You need to be teaching them too, that they can grow up and their fists can be weapons.”

Fox, who shares Valentino with her ex-husband Peter Artemiev, emphasized the importance of communication with her son, and wants him to grow up with tolerance and understanding. She recalled Valentino asking why a man was wearing a dress in a movie they’d been watching, and she made sure to give him a thoughtful answer.

“I was like, ‘You know, Uncle Ben wears dresses, so if I wore a suit, would that be weird?’” she said, referencing a close family friend. “I saw the wheels turning, and it’s like, ‘Why is it only weird when boys wear girls clothes, but not weird when girls wear boys’ clothes?’”

Julia Fox Is Focused on Raising Her Son Well

Fox is an outspoken feminist, and wants to make sure that her son grows up understanding the importance of respecting women. For the actor, that means being very attentive and intentional in raising Valentino.

“That’s really what it is all about: communicating and having those uncomfortable conversations, trying to get them to understand in a way that a 4-year-old can,” Fox explained.

“But as soon as they start making those remarks, we have to start deconstructing that,” she added, “because that’s a little seed that has been planted. … I just don’t want him to be that person.”

Fox Wants Her Son to Embrace Being a Nepo Baby

Fox, 35, is an actor, a model, and the author of a memoir “Down the Drain.” Her “It Girl” status has risen over the years and she wants her son to be aware of it. “It’s like I have this very highly coveted thing, I want to share that with my son,” Fox explained in an interview with Variety.

“We need him to be a nepo baby, and he needs to like own it too,” she continued. “He can’t be like, ‘I’m not really a nepo baby,’ he needs to be like, ‘Yes I’m a nepo baby, and what?’”
