Reality TV Star Reveals She Went Blind in One Eye During ‘Really Scary’ Health Ordeal

Lara Eyre says she woke up to a terrifying reality. She could not see out of one eye. The 53-year-old reality TV personality, who appeared on the 2022 season of “Married At First Sight UK,” rushed to the hospital after suddenly losing vision in her right eye.

In an emotional video posted on Instagram, Eyre described the shocking health scare that left her fearing the worst.

Lara Eyre Describes Frightening Moment She Lost Vision in One Eye

“I woke up, and I was completely blind in my right eye.”

“I went to the emergency room, and they told me, the opticians told me that I have a massive cataract that’s completely covering the back of my lens.”

Doctors initially told Eyre she might face a long wait before surgery.

“And it’s maybe a 12 to 14 week wait to fix it,” she said.

Doctors Say Cataract Was Likely Caused by Medication

Eyre later revealed that doctors believe the severe cataract may have developed as a side effect of the medication she has taken for asthma for many years.

The reality star said she had never realized the treatment could potentially affect her eyesight.

“It’s because of a medication I’ve been taking for my asthma for years.”

“I had no idea this was a side effect, nobody told me that maybe I should be more vigilant or get extra eye checks to make sure I was OK.”

As she shared her experience, Eyre urged others to pay closer attention to the potential risks listed with prescription medications.

“It’s not all the doctor’s fault because in these packets there are these little pamphlets and they tell you all the side effects of the medications that you take, that you think are going to make you better but could actually hurt you.”

Reality Star Calls Experience ‘Really Scary’

Speaking openly with followers, Eyre admitted the sudden loss of vision left her deeply shaken.

“It’s been really scary and I’m definitely gonna start reading all my medications from now on.”

Support quickly poured in from fellow “Married At First Sight UK” stars. Cast member Anita Barker shared a message wishing Eyre a speedy recovery, while reality personality Emma Barnes also offered words of encouragement.

Although Eyre was initially told she might face a wait of several weeks for treatment, she later returned to Instagram with a more hopeful update.

After seeking a second opinion, the reality star revealed that the NHS had secured her an emergency appointment.

In another emotional video, Eyre grew tearful as she told followers she would be able to receive treatment sooner than expected.

Eyre first rose to public attention on “Married At First Sight UK,” where she was paired with guitarist Richie Dews.

Their relationship faced challenges during the series, and the couple ultimately went their separate ways.

Since her appearance on the show, Eyre has continued sharing glimpses of her life with followers online and confirmed last year that she had begun a new relationship.
