“General Hospital” fans held their breath to find out the fate of Drew Cain. The Congressman was shot twice in the back after racking up a whole town full of enemies. As the whodunit kicked off, Drew’s life hung in the balance. Of course, the magical team of doctors and nurses at GH saved his life, and afterwards, Drew almost immediately began manipulating the PCPD.
Drew Cain’s portrayer, Cameron Mathison, recently spoke with Soap Opera Digest about his character’s near demise.
Not Dead Yet
ABCThe actor jokes about that moment when his character regained consciousness. “I could just hear the millions of viewers being like, ‘Noooooooo!’ I could feel it as I fluttered my eyes open! ‘Yeah, here you go, everybody — I’m not gone yet!’“
While GH fans weren’t the only ones banking on Drew meeting his maker, as it turns out, Mathison began to fear that he might find himself out of a job. “Absolutely! One thousand percent. I have so much gratitude for being on the show, and there’s no negativity or anything like that, but of course, I was thinking about that. You can sort of smell somebody getting ready to be sacrificed for a better story, you know what I mean?”
Drew Is Already Manipulating
ABCWith a villain like Drew Cain, there is plenty of story still to tell.
“Drew’s a good villain. I mean, he’s not out there killing people! I absolutely love being here, so it was great news for me!”
“Within minutes of waking up, he was ready to exploit being the victim of this crime. He’s going to use this to target Michael regardless of whether Michael is the shooter. It’s flat-out an opportunity to bring down Michael so Willow gets her kids back,” explains the actor.
“A minute and a half after opening his eyes after being shot twice in the back at point-blank range, he’s ready to go! He’s ready to manipulate. He’s ready to bring an innocent man down. He doesn’t care! He’s not a good human, what can I say?” says Mathison.
