“General Hospital” star Cameron Mathison may very well be playing the most hated character in daytime television right now. Congressman (Cutthroat) Drew Cain is nothing short of a monster, thanks to Mathison’s masterful way of bringing him to life.
On the Red Carpet recently caught up with the actor, and he explained that while he is having the time of his life playing Drew, some GH fans haven’t been shy about sharing their disgust with him.
Cameron Mathison Is Enjoying Being the Bad Guy
ABCOver about 18 months, Mathison’s character has gone from a decent guy to an absolutely ruthless villain. He slept with his nephew’s wife, convinced her to file for divorce, and after she listened to every suggestion that he made, she lost custody of her children. When he wasn’t blowing up Willow’s marriage to Michael, he was systematically burning every bridge that he had in Port Charles. When you’re sure that Drew can’t go any lower, he unleashes a whole new level of diabolical behavior.
At the Daytime Emmys, on Oct. 17, 2025, On the Red Carpet caught up with Cameron Mathison. He shared that while he has had apples thrown at him while shopping, he is having a blast portraying Drew Cain. Having an opportunity to play a villain is a nice change of pace for the actor.
On the Red Carpet captioned their post by saying, “Being the ‘villain’ on “General Hospital” comes with its side effects. Despite his “despicable, unbelievably nasty character,” Cameron Mathison is a sweetheart!”
Even After Being Shot, Drew Is Still Diabolical
ABCAll bad guys eventually get what they deserve, and no one in Port Charles has shed a tear over Drew being shot in the back, twice. It’s a case that the PCPD is still working on. They’ve arrested Willow, but few seem to believe that she really shot the man whom she destroyed her family to be with.
Even while walking around with a cane while healing from his injuries, Drew is as dastardly as ever. It seems to be his every intention to find a way to pin his shooting on Michael, even if he is innocent. At some point, Willow will realize that Drew’s hate for her ex is a lot stronger than his love for her. As if that isn’t enough, Drew is also busy trying to buy the Quartermaine estate right out from beneath the family, to spite them.
What do you think about Cameron Mathison’s portrayal of the vicious congressman?
