‘General Hospital’ Recap for Sept. 25: Monica’s Emotional Memorial

Today is the day for the beginning of Monica Quartermaine’s memorial service on “General Hospital.” The powers that be have compiled an hour of memories, flashbacks, and stories. They not only honor the character but also her portrayer. Leslie Charleson passed in January 2025, but her presence is still clearly felt in Port Charles and in real life.

Here’s a full recap of GH’s Thursday, Sept. 25, 2025, episode.

The Quartermaines Prepare to Say Goodbye to Monica

ABC
GENERAL HOSPITAL – Cast (ABC/Craig Sjodin)

As the Qs get ready to leave for All Saints Chapel, Ned is looking at a photo of Monica. Olivia comes down the stairs and joins him. He says that he is unsure of how to say goodbye, and Liv reminds him that it’ll always be Monica’s house. She asks if he has the letter, and Ned pats his pocket. They are joined by Chase, Brook Lynn, and Dante, and no one feels prepared, but they are glad to be going to the church together.

Tracy then appears on the stairs and asks why everyone is dragging their feet. She tells them it’s time to go and say goodbye to Monica.

At the chapel, Jason is the one greeting guests. Liz is one of the first to arrive, and when Jason starts to express some regret, she stops him. Liz tells Jason that his decision to move back into Monica’s house for the last year was exactly what she needed. It also healed many old wounds.

In another corner, Lulu is supporting Michael through his grief. Laura is sharing some precious thoughts about Monica with Jason. Slowly, Portia, Lucy, Felicia, Stella, and Gio all enter the church. Dante and Brook Lynn arrive and are shocked to see Gio. They offer him a seat with them, but Gio is there to pay his respects, not as a family member. He wants to honor Monica’s memory because she let him live at the Qs for a year and treated him like family.

If you thought that being shot in the back twice would keep Drew away from Monica’s tribute, you would be wrong. Instead, he enlists Martin’s help. As the attorney arrives, he finds Drew dressed in black and sitting in a wheelchair. Martin tells Drew that the memorial is a private event, and Drew responds that he doesn’t care about his family’s opinions.

Congressman Cutthroat then shares that Monica had recently called him, and that he had ignored her call because he figured it was about family drama. He didn’t want to know that the rest of the family had turned her against him, so he ignored the call, and now he regrets it. Drew believes that the phone call was a sign that his mother still cared, so that she would want him there today.

Drew says that he isn’t angry, but he isn’t hiding his rage very well. Martin asks if Drew really wants to celebrate Monica, or if this is about screwing with the family, again.

Port Charles Celebrates Monica

ABC
GENERAL HOSPITAL – Leslie Charleson as Monica Quartermaine (ABC/Craig Sjodin)

Once the Qs arrive at the church, Tracy greets Jason and Michael and says it’s time to start. The family is seated, and Ned is the first to speak. He says that Monica had precise instructions for when this time came. She didn’t want a sad event, but rather a celebration of love and laughter. He calls her the anchor of the family, and proceeds to read a letter that she had left for them, thanking everyone for their love.

Liz speaks next, sharing her experience with Monica from her time working at GH. She knew that Monica saw people, not titles, and she treated everyone equally. She said that Monica treated the hospital staff like family, and she forgave them when they weren’t at their best. Most importantly, Monica had forgiven her.

Laura then flashes back to being a 15-year-old candy striper who was already impressed by Monica. More importantly, she knew that Edward Quartermaine was also impressed by the woman who would become his daughter-in-law. Laura then explained how Monica’s life, which was filled with personal battles and devastating losses, only deepened her level of compassion for others.

Will Tracy Speak?

ABC
GENERAL HOSPITAL – Jane Elliot as Tracy Quartermaine (Disney/Christine Bartolucci)

Tracy is supposed to speak next, but can’t, so Lucy gets up unexpectedly. She starts by rambling about the Nurses Ball, and then admits that, as having been the other woman in Alan’s life, it’s weird for her to speak. She then talks about how Monica was the love of Alan’s life, and it is comforting to know that they have reunited now.

A very emotional Jason is next. He says that no matter how hard he tried to fight it, Monica insisted on being his mother. She just loved him for who he was. She told him that he wouldn’t see all forms of love until he had a child. Once Jason had his first son, he realized that what he saw on her face every day was love.

Tracy is still insisting that she’s not speaking, so Michael is next. He explains that while he grew up hearing all of these great stories about Monica as a doctor, she was just grandma to him. She always made time for him, real time. When he became a father, she always made time for his children as well.

As Michael closes out the memorial, the door to the church opens, and Drew wheels himself inside.
