It is already an explosive fall on “General Hospital,” and we are only a few days into it. There is the whodunit surrounding Drew Cain, and a few favorites are slated to return. We will say goodbye to Leslie Charleson’s beloved Monica Quartermaine, and Erika Slezak will join the cast as her sister.
GH’s head writers, Elizabeth Korte and Chris Van Etten, broke everything down recently for TV Insider!
Michael Gets the Upper Hand
ABCGENERAL HOSPITAL – Cameron Mathison as Drew Cain (Disney/Bahareh Ritter)
“Twists and turns, suspense and surprises — anchored with emotion,” tease GH co-head writers Elizabeth Korte and Chris Van Etten. “Our characters are going through a lot, facing challenges, making mistakes — there are triumphs, failures, wrong turns… What makes it matter are the emotions they experience — why they make the choices they do — and above all, the love the characters have for each other — familial love, fraternal love, deep abiding friendship, and always romance!”
September in Port Charles kicked off with a whodunit that had all of the classic moves. After systematically making an enemy out of nearly every friend that he had, Drew Cain’s fall from grace has included two bullet holes in his back. No one is sure of who shot him, and the pool of plausible suspects runs deep.
The writers tease that Michael Corinthos is “capable of a ruthlessness we’ve never seen before. He’ll find himself with the upper hand (in his war with Drew and Willow) — but what will he do with it?”
The Death of Monica Quartermaine
ABCLeslie Charleson passed away in January 2025, and GH fans have patiently waited to see how the writers would wrap up her character, and now we know. The Quartermaine family and those closest to them will join together after learning of the death of Monica Quartermaine.
“For most, it will be an occasion for mourning and togetherness; but for a few, it will mark an opportunity to be seized,” the writers hinted. Erika Slezak (of One Life to Live fame) will enter the series as Monica’s sister, “bearing surprising connections to the Quartermaine clan and mysterious ties to others on the canvas.”
Also spinning out of the story of Monica’s death will be more drama for Michael.
Anna Learns the Truth About Faison
ABCFans were stunned to see Britt Westbourne pop up in Croatia, very much alive, even if not in the best of health. Now it appears that her brother, Nathan, didn’t actually die on-screen in 2018 after all. He is about to make his return, and according to the writers, it will bring a huge new mystery and romantic chaos all around.”
“Twin miracles — the returns of Britt and Nathan — feel more like twin omens to Anna. To her mind, there’s only one person who could’ve saved them both from death — Cesar Faison. Anna’s fall is about learning the truth behind their survival. But the more questions she asks, the closer she is to danger,” tease Korte and VanEtten.
Valentin Returns and Has a New Alliance
ABCWhen we last saw Valentin Cassadine, Brennan was having him shipped off to Steinhauer to suffer an unknown fate. Whatever happened while there, Valentin has survived it and is now ready to form a new alliance in order to be free again.
Charlotte will also play a role in helping her father, but you can be sure that her mom, Lulu, won’t be thrilled about that.
Sonny Versus Sidwell Continues
ABCThings are going to remain complicated for Sonny. Jenz Sidwell is his latest nemesis and a worthy threat to Sonny’s livelihood. Sidwell has already made it clear that he wants the piers, and it appears that Sidwell has no qualms about playing dirty to get what he wants. Sonny and Jenz have also shown each other that family is not off limits.
The writers also tease that Sonny and ADA Turner’s game of cat and mouse will heat up.
The Fallout From Portia and Curtis Ashford’s Marriage Continues
ABCCurtis and Portia’s marriage may be hanging on by half a thread, or it may be over completely. He has struggled to move beyond his resentment for all the lies she has told. Now, Portia had sex with Isaiah, her co-worker, and Curtis is contemplating doing life with his ex, Jordan.
Speaking of complicated, Alexis, Kristina, and Ava still have Ric Lansing locked in a basement. How on earth do they get out of this situation, and how long before Molly realizes that her father is missing?
Will Jason Save Josslyn and Britt?
ABCJason returned to the Five Poppies in Croatia to find Britt and bring her home. Even if he somehow manages to do that, imagine the reaction to Britt just strolling into the Metro Court! Lulu and Dante hate her for stealing Rocco, and even her own mother, Liesl, will be furious. She has spent years grieving the loss of her Britta.
The writers tease, “This story will play out for some time to come, drawing in assorted Quartermaines, Falconeris, Spencers, and Corinthos. Maybe even a Cooper.”
Then there is Joss. If Jason somehow manages to save her and she returns home, it will be at a price. Carly will inevitably find out that her daughter was sucked into the WSB by her boyfriend, Jack Brennan. The writers remind us that men who cross Carly pay the price!
