A delightful holiday took a scary turn for popular soap star Oscar Curtis. In a candid Instagram post, Curtis has revealed he required urgent medical treatment after being bitten by a monkey while on holiday in India.
GettyCurtis, who plays Lucas Hay on the Channel 4 soap “Hollyoaks“, had been sharing highlights from the trip on Instagram. Alongside scenic views and festive moments, he posted photos of monkeys he encountered during his travels.
‘I’m All Good Tho’: Actor Reassures Concerned Fans
In one image, he appeared to be feeding the animals. In the next, he shared what happened shortly after, writing: “Moments before the little [Expletive] bit me and I had to go to hospital for rabies jabs FFS”.
The candid post quickly drew attention from fans, many of whom expressed concern following the unexpected mishap.
Although Curtis appeared to take the incident in stride, followers expressed concern over the potential health risk. He later clarified the situation, writing: “I’m all good tho and don’t have rabies.”
Rabies is considered a serious viral infection. According to the World Health Organization, “Rabies is a nearly 100% fatal, viral disease affecting the central nervous system, transmitted to humans via saliva through bites or scratches from infected animals, most commonly dogs or bats…
“Initial symptoms include fever, headache, and pain at the site of exposure, progressing to agitation, confusion, hydrophobia, and excessive saliva…
‘Immediate post-exposure treatment (vaccine and immunoglobulin) is essential, as the virus is fatal once symptoms appear.”
Prompt medical treatment is critical following potential exposure.
Celebrating the Indian Festival of Colors ‘Holi’ Before the Scare
Before the unexpected hospital visit, Curtis had been enjoying India’s vibrant Holi festival, also known as the Festival of Colours. The celebration, which marks the arrival of spring, is traditionally observed with bright powders and joyful gatherings.
Photos shared by Curtis showed him immersed in the festivities and exploring striking backdrops across the country. The monkey encounter appeared to be one brief but dramatic chapter in an otherwise colorful getaway.
Drama Continues for His ‘Hollyoaks’ Character
Curtis continues to play a central role on “Hollyoaks.” He joined the Channel 4 soap in 2023, taking over the part of Lucas Hay following William Hall’s exit.
Storylines in recent weeks have placed Lucas at the heart of intense drama. After taking his father, Ste Hay, hostage, Lucas ended up in prison. The consequences have been painful. Ste, played by Kieron Richardson, has found it difficult to face his son, even as Dillon Ray urges him to reconsider.
Dillon, portrayed by Nathaniel Dass, still visits Lucas behind bars. Their meetings are charged with emotion and unresolved history. Vicky Grant, played by Anya Lawrence, notices that Dillon appears more at ease after spending time with him.
On screen, Lucas is navigating turmoil. Off-screen, Curtis is recovering well from his holiday scare and reassuring fans that he is safe.
