Team Adam – Drew Russell vs. Jared Shoemaker
Adam said he is going to cry because of this matchup. They said they are excited for the matchup and think it’s great. For their performance, they are singing “Leather & Lace” by Stevie Nicks and Don Henley. Adam happened to sing this song with Stevie Nicks at his wedding to his wife, so no pressure on this one for these artists.
The stakes are high, and they’ve gotten a lot of feedback. They need to be vulnerable with this one and have that chemistry among them. For this performance, it’s a good one. She has that country twang to her voice, which sounds very solid on this song. Then he comes in with that raspy, rocker voice, and it works. They both sound good.
Coaches’ Feedback: John said they look good together and sound good together. A good song choice for both of them. He just decided that Jared is one of his favorite male vocalists this season. Kelly said it was the perfect song for both of them. They both complement each other and make each other better. Adam said it was so beautiful, and thank you for doing it right.
Results: The winner of this battle is Jared Shoemaker, which means Drew is eliminated.
Team Kelly – Houston Kelly vs. Tia Durant
Kelly said they are different types of singers, so this will be a good one. It’s a mix between country and soul, but they said it works together once they started singing. They both have a gospel background. For their performance, they are singing “Either Way” by Chris Stapleton. Jennifer Hudson said Kelly knew exactly what she was doing when she paired these two together. They are so good during rehearsals, they get a shoe thrown at them by Jennifer!
For their performance, I was thinking Tia was knocking it out of the park, but then Houston gets so deep with his lyrics. He is feeling it, and it sounds so solid. Tia is so strong, but they both did great.
Coaches’ Feedback: Adam said that the rasp in his voice is great. John said they both made it hard for Kelly. He was impressed with Houston, but he would choose Tia. He loved her runs, and her tone was liquid gold. Kelly said they both handled the song so well.
Results: Kelly is struggling on this one, but she picks Houston as the winner on this one.
Team Adam – Aziz Guerra vs. Jeremy Keith
Aziz sang his audition in Spanish. He thought he could pair these up and make it work. They will be singing My Cherie Amour by Stevie Wonder. Aziz will be singing it in Spanish, but Jeremy will be joining him in parts with Spanish lyrics. Jeremy has been a background singer, so they want to make sure he comes out and takes center stage tonight on “The Voice” season 29.
For the performance, it was good. I think it’s a more laid-back song choice, and they sang it well. I was just a little bored while listening to it. The Spanish lyrics are great that are added to it.
Coaches’ Feedback: John said that it was beautiful, but he would pick Jeremy. Kelly said they both did a good job. Their runs were different, but both were good. Adam said it’s a tough one; he doesn’t like it. He is really happy and proud of both of them.
Results: He thinks this person is ready now, so the winner of this Battle Round is Jeremy Keith, which means Aziz has been eliminated.
Team Legend – Kendra Remedios vs. Natasha Blaine
John said this is a classic. The great thing about songwriting, you can turn it into any genre. For their song choice, they are singing “Walk On By” by Dionne Warwick. John said on the day of the battle, it’s going to be whoever shows up.
For their performance, I think Kendra has a strong voice. However, I just loved the sound and tone of Natasha’s voice. It works so well for this song choice.
Coaches’ Feedback: Adam said they couldn’t be more different. Kelly said Kendra is ready to release the firecracker, and Natasha has this smoothness. John said well done to both of them.
Results – The winner of this battle is Natasha, which means that Kendra has been eliminated.
Team Kelly – Jonah Mayor vs. Aaron Lavigne
It’s a relatively new song, and it would be a big challenge for them. They are powerhouse vocals from two different worlds. They both have a range that doesn’t end. Jennifer said it’s going to be a true battle for Team Kelly, and she’s glad she’s not Kelly.
For their performance, they sing “The First Time” by Damiano David. They both have good voices. I mean, David is on Broadway. I just feel Jonah has something special with his voice. Jonah makes me a fan.
Coaches’ Feedback: Adam said it was great and the energy was amazing. John said that when they both hit those high notes is what he loves. Kelly said they are both firecrackers. They both had pitch issues.
Results: Kelly picks Jonah as the winner, which means Aaron has been eliminated.
Team Legend – Syd Millevoi vs. Ashley Marina
John said they are both going to give us that pop diva performance. So, why not give them one of the original pop divas. They will be performing “Love Takes Time” by Mariah Carey. I picked Syd as the best of the best after the Blind Auditions, so can she continue it?
Yes, there are definitely some pop divas. I felt like Syd was a little slower on this one, but then kicked it in. She hit that huge note, and I felt like Ashley was done for then.
Coaches’ Feedback: Kelly said there were some pitchy parts from Ashley, but her voice is beautiful. She is still angry that she couldn’t fight for Syd. John said they are both wonderful singers.
Results: The winner is Syd, which means Ashley has been eliminated.
Team Kelly – Abigayle Oakley vs. Julia Golden
Jennifer said their voices are similar, but different. They will be performing “Rhiannon” by Fleetwood Mac. She said they are two completely different personalities, but they are both interesting in their own ways.
While they are both good singers, this was another performance where I was a little underwhelmed. I want those big, over-the-top moments to win me over. Nothing in this one.
Coaches’ Feedback: Adam said he wants to hear more from Abigayle. John said it felt solid and comfortable for Abigayle. Julia’s energy felt right. Kelly said they both have something magical about their tone. She said she liked both of their blinds better.
Results: The winner of this Battle Round is Abigayle, which means Julia has been eliminated.
Team Legend – Mike Steele vs. KJ Willis
For this performance, they will be singing “Let Me Love You” by Mario. John said they sound good together. They were trying to answer each other and not trying to harmonize. This is his favorite of the day. John said he thinks it’s going to be dope, and one of them is going to get stolen. John said based on rehearsals, he could go either way.
This was an interesting one. I feel they both had their moments where they shone. I think KJ has a great voice, and he was more of a standout on this one. Mike then hits that run towards the end where he goes low.
Coaches’ Feedback: Kelly said that it was really good. You are both incredible. Adam said the swag with these fits is great. John said they are both phenomenal singers. Their tones are so different from each other. He is proud of both of them.
Results: John picked KJ as the winner of this battle. Adam uses his steal to add Mike Steele to his team!
