Reba McEntire wants fans to know she hasn’t said “I do” just yet. The country music legend and her fiancé, Rex Linn, appeared together on the TODAY show on December 1, where McEntire addressed recent rumors about their relationship status. Although co-anchor Savannah Guthrie mistakenly referred to Linn as McEntire’s husband, the singer immediately set the record straight.
“Before everybody has a conniption fit at home, we’re just engaged,” McEntire clarified. And with that cleared up, the “Happy’s Place” stars confirmed they are deep in the planning stage of what they promise will be an unconventional celebration.
Here’s what we know about their upcoming “nontraditional” wedding.
Reba McEntire Says Her Wedding to Rex Linn Will Be ‘Nontraditional’
McEntire and Linn got engaged on Christmas Eve 2024, before publicly confirming the news in September 2025. Since then, the couple has been enjoying life on and off screen. They co-star on season 2 of NBC’s “Happy’s Place,” where their chemistry spills into their roles as Bobbie and Emmett.
But when it comes to wedding planning, McEntire and Linn told E! News that they aren’t interested in anything overly traditional or overly formal. They want something fun, casual, and true to who they are.
“It’ll be a lot of fun,” McEntire said. “It’s gonna be a nontraditional wedding because that’s Rex and me. We like comfort, we love friends, we love food.”
“The Voice” judge didn’t share specific décor or guest details just yet, but she hinted those three elements will define their celebration. Linn is also leaning into the slower pace and confirmed they haven’t picked a date.
“What we’re doing right now, honestly, is enjoying our engagement time,” Linn told E! News, via NBC. “We haven’t set a date, we’re just going to enjoy our engagement and enjoy going to Happy’s Place every day.”
‘The Voice’ Star Reveals the Sweet Proposal Story
In an interview with USA Today, McEntire shared that the proposal wasn’t a grand gesture—it was simple, personal, and exactly their style. Linn popped the question while the couple was riding around their ranch in Tennessee, stopping near a creek.
“He said, ‘I want to cross the finish line with you. Would you marry me?’” McEntire recalled.
She was so shocked she didn’t answer at first. “He said, ‘You’re not saying anything!’ And I finally said, ‘Well, yes! YES!’”
Linn presented McEntire with a custom ring. “It is black diamonds and rose gold. And it sparkles all the time,” she said. “I don’t think I’ve ever cleaned it, and it just sparkles.”
In a recent interview with People, McEntire explained why they’re in no rush to set a wedding date.
“I asked him, ‘Well, when do you want to do this?’ He said, ‘Let’s have fun with the engagement time.’ So we haven’t set a date or anything. We’re just enjoying each other.”
McEntire also called Linn “a very tender-hearted man,” adding, “I’ve never been loved by a man like Rex Linn.”
Fans can catch Reba McEntire on new episodes of “The Voice” on Mondays and Tuesdays on NBC.
