Actress and star of “Ghostbusters” and “Young Sheldon” Annie Potts has paid tribute to her good friend, the late, great Tim Curry, following his sad passing on Tuesday, August 25, at the age of 80.
Potts, 73, is also known for appearing in movies like 1986’s teen rom-com “Pretty in Pink,” and 1989’s comedy mystery movie “Who’s Harry Crumb?” She also famously voices Bo Peep in the iconic “Toy Story” franchise.
However, she was also lucky enough to work with Curry on two occasions. The pair starred together in the 1988 comedy movie “Pass the Ammo” and the short-lived 1997 ABC sitcom “Over the Top.” Their professional relationship quickly became a personal friendship.
The actress references that friendship in her tribute to Curry, which she shared on social media.
Annie Potts Says Tim Curry ‘Taught Me About Friendship’
The extent of Annie Potts’ friendship with Tim Curry is revealed in her tribute to the late star, which she shared on her Instagram account with her 843,000 followers.
Her post includes a single picture of Potts standing with Curry, with both stars smiling. Potts is wearing a wedding dress and Curry is dressed in a black suit and bow tie — the reason for which is made clear in the second sentence of Potts’ caption.
The caption on her post begins, “My darling Tim. My Best Man at my wedding.”
It continues, “My neighbor. My boys’ Uncle. He taught me about friendship and cooking and design and gardens. I taught him how to fish. I am so happy that you are released now….into a most beautiful garden….”
The caption concludes, “I will miss you beyond words.”
Curry served as Potts’ Best Man at her wedding to her fourth and current husband, television director and producer James Hayman, which took place on September 2, 1990.
She has spoken about her friendship with Curry publicly on several occasions.
Potts Detailed Her Friendship With Curry on ‘The View’
In a 1997 appearance on “The View,” in which she was promoting “Over the Top” (the sitcom in which she briefly starred alongside Tim Curry), Annie Potts went into detail about her friendship with the actor.
Potts was asked about her great chemistry with Curry, to which she replied, “Well, we don’t have to work so hard at being actors. You know, since we’re such good friends. We don’t… we didn’t have anything to work out, you know what I mean? It’s like we were friends already. So, it’s like, we got over all that other stuff.”
One of the hosts then said they weren’t just any old friends, they were great friends. Potts responded, “He was, he was my best man” and continued, “Sang at the wedding. Sang ‘Love Me Tender.'”
She then spoke about how she and Curry spent their evenings together, saying, “He has a wonderful… he has the most fantastic garden and he built like this amphitheater in it. And we like to go up there and have a glass of wine at sunset.”
It sounds like a genuinely fabulous friendship.
