’90s Movie Icon Makes Rare Appearance in LA After Quitting Hollywood

Bridget Fonda made a rare public appearance this week, more than two decades after stepping away from a successful Hollywood career. The retired actress, 62, was photographed leaving a Los Angeles restaurant with her assistant on Wednesday, August 12, according to Page Six.

Fonda kept things casual for the lunch outing in a striped tank top, loose black pants and sneakers. She finished the look with glasses and a crossbody bag, wearing her hair pulled back.

The sighting was notable for fans who rarely see the former actress, who largely disappeared from public life after leaving the entertainment industry in the early 2000s.

Fonda has maintained a remarkably private life since walking away from acting. Her final screen credits came in 2002, when she appeared in the television movie “Snow Queen” and the sitcom “The Chris Isaak Show,” according to IMDb.

Since then, sightings of the former movie star have been few and far between.

Fonda was photographed at Los Angeles International Airport in 2023, where a photographer asked whether she would ever consider returning to Hollywood. Her answer left little room for doubt. “No,” she replied, according to the Daily Mail.

When pressed further, Fonda explained, “I don’t think so, it’s too nice being a civilian.”

Fonda’s decision to leave acting came after a career filled with prominent film roles. She appeared in “The Godfather Part III” in 1990 before starring in movies including “Single White Female,” “Point of No Return” and “It Could Happen to You.”

She also came from one of Hollywood’s most recognizable acting dynasties.

Fonda is the daughter of the late actor and director Peter Fonda, the granddaughter of screen legend Henry Fonda and the niece of actress Jane Fonda.

Despite those deep Hollywood roots, Bridget eventually chose a quieter path away from the business.

Bridget Fonda Chose Family Life Over Acting

Fonda has said raising her family became a priority after leaving the spotlight. She married composer Danny Elfman in 2003, and the couple has a son, Oliver.

Rather than attempt a comeback as her son grew older, Fonda appears to have remained comfortable with the life she built outside the industry.

Her 2023 comments made it clear that the privacy she gained after Hollywood is something she values.

Fonda’s latest appearance may spark renewed nostalgia among fans of her films, but there is no indication that she intends to return to acting.

Even when directly asked whether the right filmmaker might convince her to come back, Fonda again said “no.”

More than 20 years after her last credited roles, she continues to live in the Los Angeles area with Elfman while largely staying away from red carpets, premieres and other celebrity events.

For longtime fans, that makes an ordinary lunch outing a rarity: a brief glimpse of a former Hollywood fixture who seems perfectly content with the quieter life she chose.
