Beloved Catherine O’Hara Addressed Her Mortality With Co-Stars Months Before Her Passing

As fans reel over the news of actress Catherine O’Hara’s death at 71 on January 30, 2026, comments she made months prior about her mortality have resurfaced online.

In March 2025, the Emmy-winning actress, whose credits range from playing the mom in “Home Alone” to iconic Moira Rose on “Schitt’s Creek,” was part of a group interview with the Los Angeles Times while attending South by Southwest with her co-stars from the Emmy Award-winning movie “The Studio.” An especially eerie moment from the interview has resurfaced on social media, in which O’Hara joked that she might be dying, given how nicely people had been treating her.

Cast of ‘The Studio’ Thought Catherine O’Hara Joking About Dying Was Hilarious At the Time

Actor Seth Rogen co-created “The Studio” with Evan Goldberg as a satire about the entertainment industry, released on AppleTV+ in March 2025. Rogen stars as “put-upon studio head Matt Remick,” per the LA Times, and O’Hara played Remick’s recently fired predecessor. The series, which was renewed for a second season, also features Ike Barinholtz, Kathryn Hahn, and Chase Sui Wonders, all of whom were part of the LA Times sit-down.

At one point in their discussion, the cast laughed when Deputy Arts and Entertainment Editor Matt Brennan noted, “In ‘The Studio,’ there’s expressly an episode about how powerful talent is.”

Crossing her arms, O’Hara quipped, “How do I get me some of that?”

As the cast snickered, Brennan continued, “I’m wondering if you could … talk about how the dynamic has evolved. Do you think or do you disagree with that assessment, Catherine?”

Wide-eyed, she replied that she’d always been taught “that they’re not the most powerful people. As an actor, I never think I am the most powerful person, but the studio executives, like, their job every day could disappear. You know, make the right decision, the wrong decision, get blamed, don’t get (blamed) — it’s just nerve-wracking, wow.”

Brennan then asked the group whether they felt they had “more of a say” in creative decisions and Barinholtz cracked, “I feel like Catherine has more of a say.”

O’Hara looked puzzled and exclaimed, “That makes no sense to me. I don’t know where — I swear I’ve been treated that way lately. Am I dying or something?”

The group laughed uproariously and Rogen said sarcastically, “This is how we wanted to tell you.” Pointing to Brennan, he said, “This man’s actually a doctor. This is a fake interview!”

Laughing, Hahn added, “This was all set up!”

Fans React to Resurfaced Clip of Catherine O’Hara

Fans have begun to comment on a resurfaced clip from the interview that the LA Times originally shared on Instagram in March 2025.

“Maybe she knew,” one wrote after her death was announced, while another commented, “Well this didn’t age well. 😢”

“Rest in Peace,” someone else wrote. What a funny lady. Loved her on Second City TV.”

A rep for O’Hara confirmed her death but did not give a specific cause. According to Page Six, the actress was rushed to the hospital hours before her passing.
