Drew Barrymore is reminding fans that she’s “so single” and “very happy” with her life. The actress and talk show host recently shared a throwback clip from her conversation with Andie MacDowell. The candid discussion offered a refreshingly honest look at Barrymore’s approach to single life, much like Anne Hathaway’s heartfelt comments about Julie Andrews.
Drew Barrymore Revisits Her “So Single” Era
According to Hello!, the older conversation was recently shared again on the “Drew Barrymore Show” Instagram account. The interview featured MacDowell and Barrymore discussing life, dating and getting older.
During the conversation, Drew Barrymore described her relationship status in refreshingly direct terms. “I’m so single,” she said.
At the time of the interview, Drew Barrymore, now 51, was approaching 49. Barrymore explained how she felt about her life at that point.
“I’m not that aggressive or interested,” she said of dating. She then added, “I’m very happy with my life.”
Andie MacDowell Agreed
The conversation also included an honest reflection from MacDowell. According to Hello!, the actress recalled growing tired of questions about whether there was a man in her life.
MacDowell explained that people had repeatedly asked her about relationships over the years. Eventually, she said, “People finally gave up.”
She also remembered reaching a point where people stopped asking. The actress, who was 68 at the time of the conversation, then offered a broader observation about single life. “We’ve had such an evolution of who we are as human beings,” she said.
MacDowell continued with an especially simple message. “There is nothing wrong with being single, really.”
That sentiment matched the tone of Drew Barrymore’s own remarks. Neither woman presented being single as something that needed to be fixed.
Drew Barrymore Once Struggled With Dating
The conversation also has an interesting connection to comments Barrymore made years earlier. In a 2022 interview reported by Motherly, the actress spoke openly about dating as a single mother.
Drew Barrymore shares daughters Olive and Frankie with her former husband, Will Kopelman. At the time, both girls were young.
During that interview, Barrymore became emotional while discussing the idea of dating again. “I don’t know how to date with kids,” she admitted.
She explained that she did not want to bring someone home while her daughters were still young. Barrymore also said she would need significant time to know someone before introducing them to her children.
A Different Perspective on Single Life
The contrast makes the resurfaced conversation more interesting. In 2022, Drew Barrymore openly discussed how difficult dating could be with children. Then in the reshared conversation with MacDowell, she sounded far more settled with being single.
Barrymore did not say that she would never fall in love again. Instead, she described a life that already made her happy. At the same time, being single was not presented as a temporary problem. It was simply part of her life at that moment.
MacDowell’s message reinforces that idea. Both veteran actresses offered a reminder that single life does not have to mean an incomplete life. Elsewhere, heavily-pregnant Anne Hathaway has joked that her baby is due any minute.
