James Van Der Beek Passes Away at 48
Van Der Beek tragically lost his battle with colorectal cancer.
He first publicly revealed his diagnosis in November 2024.
“I have colorectal cancer. I’ve been privately dealing with this diagnosis and have been taking steps to resolve it, with the support of my incredible family,” Van Der Beek told People at the time. “There’s reason for optimism, and I’m feeling good.”
He later shared an update via Instagram in March 2025, saying, “I had to come nose to nose with death.”
“I was away for treatment, so I could no longer be a husband that was helpful to my wife. I could no longer be a father who could pick up his kids and put them to bed and be there for them. I could not be a provider because I wasn’t working,” Van Der Beek added.

I’m sending my deepest sympathy to your family and friends God has you in a glorious place God bless your family We will truly miss you
