John Goodman, 73, is famous for his roles in “The Big Lebowski” (1998), “The Flintstones” (1994) and the “Monsters, Inc.” franchise (2001–present), not to mention “Roseanne” (1988–1997; 2018) and “The Conners” — just to name a few of his memorable gigs. On top of that, he’s also sparked (impressed and supportive) headlines about his weight loss.
“Goodman is thriving in his seventies, and his health is on point thanks to the fact that he dropped 200 pounds,” according to Parade. “Looking more handsome than ever, Goodman hit the red carpet premiere of Chili Finger during the 2026 SXSW Conference and Festival at ZACH Theatre this week in Austin, Texas.”
That’s not the only stop he made! The actor also popped up at a food truck to help promote his new project.
John Goodman Served Chili from a Foodtruck
During Goodman’s trip to SXSW, he did what stars do and promoted his new movie. However, he did so in a rather unusual way. The actor showed up at a “Blake Junior’s” foodtruck to help serve (what we can only hope is spicy) chili. He also took a little time to pose with his temporary co-workers.
What is “Chili Finger” about? Well, first, you need a little IRL background. “In 2005, a San Jose woman found a human finger in her Wendy’s chili. Well, she claimed to,” according to Variety. “When it was discovered that she planted the finger in the bowl herself for financial gain, she was sentenced to nine years in prison for the scam that cost the fast-food chain millions. Edd Benda and Stephen Helstad’s agile and entertaining crime caper ‘Chili Finger’ is ripped from those headlines, but mostly fictionalized, opening with the caveat that only some of the events portrayed in the film are truth-based.”
Indeed, the official SXSW description of the film explains, “When Jessica Lipki discovers a severed human finger in her bowl of chili, she recognizes an opportunity to seize control of her stagnating life. Jess blackmails the regionally-beloved fast-food chain for $100,000 in return that she and her blissfully ignorant husband, Ron, keep quiet about the incident. Unbeknownst to Jess, her stunt has caught the attention of ‘the’ Blake Junior, the plutocratic founder behind the ‘Blake Junior’s’ food empire. He recruits his ex-marine buddy, Dave, to investigate Jess and discover the truth behind the chili finger…”
John Goodman Has Opened Up About His Weight Loss
Getty“When Goodman was in his 50s, he committed to improving his health,” People explained in July 2025. “[O]ver the years, he has also opened up about the different ways he incorporates a thoughtful diet and various exercises into his busy schedule. The award-winner started his health journey in the early aughts, and since then, he has revealed his motivation to live a healthier lifestyle” during various interviews.
People also pointed out that when Goodman showed up at the Smurfs premiere at Paramount Theater in Los Angeles on July 13, 2025, he “showed off his slimmer physique, turning heads on the red…” [or rather, blue] “…carpet.”

I’ve always admired John Goodman’s work, and seeing him look so healthy at the Chili Finger premiere at SXSW is truly inspiring. Losing 200 pounds at 73 is no small feat! Does anyone know if he followed a specific Mediterranean plan or used a supplement guide like the one mentioned at guiadebetnacionalbrasil.com to manage his routine, or was it purely traditional diet and exercise? I’d love to know more about the specific steps he took to stay so consistent over the years.
