The start of the month brings the list of shows we get to watch soon, but it also brings the news of shows that are departing Netflix very soon. The list for October is out, and there’s one ’90s teen drama that you will not want to wait to binge-watch one more time! “Dawson’s Creek” is on the move.
What’s on Netflix shared the disappointing news, but there is hope. The asterisk next to the title, it hints that this could end up going through an agreement to save it. This has happened with other shows recently, including “Seinfeld,” which was also originally set to depart in October.

The exits usually happen at midnight PT on the day, which is why you want to finish your watch the day before.
With 128 episodes to get through, it will get tight. However, it’s more than worth it, especially as we also said goodbye to leading man James Van Der Beek earlier this year.
It was because of “Dawson’s Creek” in the ’90s that fans ended up with a boom of teen dramas. This, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” and “7th Heaven” all kicked off The WB’s slate, and it led to the development of other hit shows such as “One Tree Hill,” “Gossip Girl,” and even “Gilmore Girls.”
Speaking of “Gilmore Girls,” that’s another huge show that Netflix recently lost, and the reason for the suggestion to get ready for “Dawson’s Creek” leaving the streamer. While it’s likely there was a big fight not to lose it, a new deal couldn’t be made between Warner Bros. and Netflix. In the end, the series left at the end of June and immediately started streaming on Prime Video the following day.

While there are certainly many who are upset, there are others who point out that this is the way streaming is. Because of that, they’ve got the boxsets at home, giving them a chance to watch the series whenever they want.
Others have pointed out that the series that put Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson on the map is also available to stream on Hulu. Many of these older shows are now joining streamers under non-exclusive licenses. The original studio owners have seen how important they are and want to keep them for their own platforms, but there is also a huge benefit in licensing out the content.
“Dawson’s Creek” was an important teen drama at the time. Like “Beverly Hills, 90210” just before it, it tackled major topics at the time, such as grief, coming of age, and love. It also tackled the topics of sexuality and addiction, which many shows at the time tried to avoid as being too taboo. There was a shift in the ’90s to highlight the very real problems that teenagers faced.
This is the month to binge-watch. The good news is that most of the broadcast schedules aren’t coming back until October, so you have plenty of time.
