Former Idol Judge Makes Honest Comments About Their High Profile Divorce

Jennifer Lopez has been a prominent figure in the entertainment industry for decades. She’s faced her fair share of highs and lows, and now she’s opening up about her divorce from Ben Affleck. This comes as the former “American Idol” judge is promoting her new movie, “Kiss of the Spider Woman.”

Lopez appeared on CBS News’ Sunday Morning on September 28. While on the show, she called her divorce from Affleck “the best thing that ever happened to me.” When asked why she feels this way, the singer stated, “Because it changed me.” She added, “It helped me grow in a way that I needed to grow.”

Notably, filming for “Kiss of the Spider Woman” was beginning around the time Lopez had reportedly split from Affleck. She spoke about working on the movie while dealing with personal struggles.

Lopez said, “It was a really tough time. Every moment on set, every moment I was doing this role, I was so happy, and then it was like, back home, it was not great. And it was just like, ‘How do I work inside of this?'”

Lopez Recently Opened up About Oscar Buzz

Lopez has appeared in over 40 roles throughout her illustrious career. However, she’s been open about her long-held desire to appear in a musical. She told Variety, “I was waiting my whole life to be able to do a real big MGM Hollywood musical, and I finally got to do it.”

The former “American Idol” judge continued, “It was more [than I hoped]. Me and Diego [Luna] were on set, and we’re dancing around, and we’re singing and looking at each other, and it’s like we don’t want to do anything else but musicals. Diego said that! Me too. I don’t want to do anything else.”

There has been talk of Lopez being nominated for an Oscar. When asked about it, she remarked that she didn’t “even want to begin the conversation.” Still, she admitted, “Of course, I would love it to get the recognition that I believe it deserves.”

‘Kiss of the Spider Woman’ Hits Movie Theaters in October

“Kiss of the Spider Woman” is heading to movie theaters on October 10. Bill Condon directed the film. In addition to Lopez, the film stars William Hurt, Raúl Julia, Sônia Braga, and Patricio Bisso. It was previously screened at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival.

Lopez described the film, saying it’s a reminder that “love heals all divides.” She added, “It’s about two different people who come together and find the humanity in one another and fall in love. To me, that is something that is special and needs to be seen. We are all just human. It’s an important movie in this way.”
