Ryan Seacrest Honors His Late Dad During an Emotional First Christmas Without Him

Ryan Seacrest is approaching Christmas differently this year. As the holiday season unfolds, the longtime “American Idol” host and “Wheel of Fortune” co-host is navigating professional momentum alongside a deeply personal loss.

While Seacrest remains busy, including his return to host “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” on December 31, the holidays at home carry a quieter, more reflective feel.

Seacrest Honors His Beloved Dad

“First Christmas without Dad, but holding him close in all the ways we can. We miss you. Merry Heavenly Christmas.”

Back in October, Seacrest announced that his father, Gary, had died at age 79 following a years-long battle with cancer.

Sharing photos with his father, he wrote: “It is with a heavy heart that I share with you that my loving father peacefully passed away earlier this week. My mom, sister, and I have peace knowing he is in a better place and free of any pain or suffering.”

The loss has reshaped the way the family approaches milestones, especially the holidays.

Speaking to People at the iHeartRadio 102.7 KIIS FM Jingle Ball, Seacrest acknowledged that this Christmas would feel different.

“I’m not quite sure what it’ll be like yet because we haven’t been there to experience a Christmas without him,” he shared in an interview published Deccember 8. “But we’ll certainly honor him.”

He also added, “We’ll keep our traditions of making a Caesar salad that he always used to love to do. Pour a little glass of red wine, his favorite, and toast to him,”

A Bittersweet Birthday During the Holiday Season

It was a bittersweet birthday for Seacrest, who marked his birthday for the first time since the loss of his father.

He turned 51 on Christmas Eve, December 24. Ahead of his birthday, Seacrest shared a series of photos with his mother, Connie, his sister, Meredith, and his niece, Flora, offering a quiet glimpse of how the family is spending the holidays together.

“Soaking in the moments leading up to the holidays,” he captioned the photos. Seacrest later marked his birthday with heartfelt tributes from family and friends shared on his Instagram Stories.

Leaning on Family & Familiar Traditions

For Seacrest, this Christmas is about remembrance, togetherness, and carrying his father’s presence forward in small but meaningful ways. The familiar sights, tastes, and moments around the table offer a sense of closeness, even in absence.

As he shares this moment with fans, Seacrest’s message is clear. Love does not end, even when the holidays feel different. And for his family, honoring Gary’s memory has become the heart of Christmas this year.
