“Welcome to American Idol University. With decades of talent on display, I’m so excited for you all to explore these historic halls,” Seacrest begins, wearing a blue letterman’s jacket.

Then, Richie, Bryan, and Underwood appear wearing similar Idol University gear.

“Look at all of these superstars that have graduated from Idol-U,” Underwood says, showing off framed photos of “Idol” alums like Kelly ClarksonJennifer Hudson, and Jamal Roberts, the winner of Season 23.

“A dream come true in every direction,” says Richie.

A display labeled “American Idol by the Numbers” is shown, showcasing stats such as, the show’s awards, platinum records earned, and the amount of people who have auditioned.

“What an incredible amount of lives that have changed,” says Bryan.

“And hairstyles,” Underwood jokingly adds, referring to a wall that features framed photos of Seacrest’s different hairdos over the years.

The judges approach what they believe is a wax figure of Clay Aiken, the runner-up in Season 2 of “Idol” in 2003. Bryan calls him “one of the greats” before Aiken startles them when he turns his head and winks at the judges.

Finally, the judges approach a door that reads “Welcome 2026 Idols.”

“American Idol class of 2026 is in session,” Underwood says, before a teaser of the upcoming season plays.

“Who will be the next American Idol?” Aiken asks viewers, before Seacrest cuts in with a playful, “um, that’s my line!”

This promo premiered exclusively with PEOPLE on Wednesday, December 31.

Season 24 will start significantly earlier than the last. The upcoming season will premiere on ABC on Monday, January 26, 2026. This marks the earliest start in a decade and, if the show ends mid-May as it always does, it will be the longest “Idol” season since it moved to ABC in 2018, according to The Boot.

Richie, Bryan, and Underwood are back, marking Underwood’s second season as a judge. Seacrest will be returning as host.

One notable change in Season 24 will be the elimination of “Hollywood Week.” A Golden Ticket will now get you to Nashville for Hollywood Week: Music City Takeover, focusing on a single, high-stakes round.
