The long-running reality show “Big Brother” is celebrating another milestone in season 28. Its 1,000th episode airs on Thursday, August 27. There will be a live eviction, but there will also be a celebration.
‘Big Brother’ Fans Will Vote on Which Houseguests They Want To Return
CBSThursday’s episode will be 90 minutes long, starting at 8 p.m. ET. Fans will vote to pick which former houseguests will appear and help with a major twist of the season, according to Paramount’s press release.
Memorable moments throughout 26 years of the CBS show will be shown to celebrate. Then the nominees will compete in the BB Blockbuster for the chance to remove themselves from the block.
“Never did I ever expect the unexpected,” Julie Chen Moonves said in the press release. “When we launched season one, there were rumors we could get canceled midseason because we didn’t have the same ratings as SURVIVOR. And now look at us, Ma! Two former SURVIVOR players are currently on our show, including a former winner, Dee. Although the past 28 seasons feel like the blink of an eye, it doesn’t look that way when you see all the fashion trends and hairstyles I’ve worn through the decades. That’s the dead giveaway for how long we’ve been around!”
The host looks forward to many more years of the competition. Executive producers Allison Grodner and Rich Meehan said this achievement belongs to the people who work behind the scenes of the series.
‘Big Brother 28’ Already Made History
Records continue to break on the reality show. Season 28 episode 17 showed the houseguests, except for Haley Thogmartin, competing for Head of Household through the wall competition.
The last ones on the wall were MMA fighter Kamu Kirk and boutique salesperson LaTrice “LaLa” Verrett. Kirk, 32, slipped after telling her that he felt good and could last longer. The 58-year-old fitness competitor won, becoming the oldest person to win the endurance competition. Everyone was thrilled for her, and she cried.
“That goes down in history for all my women of a certain age, you can do anything you want,” Verrett said in the diary room. “Anything! Just set your mind to it. You can do it.” The win was even better because Verrett wasn’t in the dominant alliance.
Season 28 stands out because multiple “Survivor” alums are competing for the first time. Rick Devens and season 45 winner Dee Valladares entered the Big Brother house. They are in multiple dominating alliances.
“This is like the biggest upset of all time,” Devens said in the diary room. “A 58-year-old woman and she just dominated some of the most jacked guys I’ve ever seen. It’s history. It’s probably not good for me. I don’t know how I feel about this.”
The competition in which houseguests try to hold onto a ledge against a wall the longest was introduced in season 10. It became a staple of the show after season 12. We’ll have to wait for Aug. 27 to see if any past wall competitions make it into the anniversary episode.
