The end of 2025 is finally here, which means it’s time for another entertaining “CNN New Year’s Eve Live” with Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen. The pair has been hosting the New Year’s Eve show for nine years. However, things almost always go off the rails. While this may sound chaotic, the pairing of buttoned-down CNN journalist Cooper and carefree Bravo star Cohen makes this a must-watch.
โAndy is the life of the party wherever he goes, and what bigger party is there than New Yearโs Eve? It is going to be a blast!โ Cooper said in CNN’s original 2017 press release.
While the title has slightly changed depending on the hosts, little else has. Read on to learn when it begins and which channel to watch the fan-favorite end-of-year celebration.

A Look Back at the Show’s Informal Beginnings and Format Changes
CNN began its New Year’s Eve coverage in 2001 with journalist Miles O’Brien hosting. The first broadcast was very informal, but popular. Various correspondents reported from the scene and spoke with the crowd, and parties from other parts of the country were shown. The following year, Cooper took over the coverage.
Initially, the show was just 30 minutes long, beginning at 11:30 PM ET. By 2003, it had been extended to 90 minutes, and it would grow longer over the years. In 2007, comedian Kathy Griffin began co-hosting the show with Cooper. The intriguing oddball dynamic worked surprisingly well.
GettyIn 2014, Griffin described Cooper as an ice sculpture to “The New York Times,” whereas she was “whatever chips away at the ice.”
“I love doing the show with her,” Cooper said about Griffin. “I actually look forward to New Yearโs Eve.”
Griffin was fired from the show in May 2017 after posting an offensive image of Donald Trump.
“For the record, I am appalled by the photo shoot Kathy Griffin took part in,” Cooper wrote on X after the incident (via USA Today). “It is clearly disgusting and completely inappropriate.”
Cohen took over co-hosting duties seven months later and has been part of the show ever since.

I’ll be watching Andy and Anderson all night! I love them. Hope I can sleep cause I have to work into th morning๐๐
