Actor and former beauty pageant winner Greer Grammer has detailed how she was estranged from her father Kelsey Grammer for more than a decade but then was able to reconnect with him following a chance meeting. The pair have since reconciled and have a happier relationship.
Greer Grammer Explains Chance Meeting With Dad
While speaking on an episode of the “Pretty Basic Podcast” Greer was asked about what the biggest misconceptions are about her. She pointed out that many people wrongly assume that she is someone who was brought up with privilege and is essentially a nepo baby because of her famous father.
However, Greer went on to explain that she did not share a childhood with Kelsey, as he and her mother separated when she was just four years old. This left them estranged for 12 years and the pair only saw each other once before she turned 16.
“My dad left when I was four, and then I didn’t meet him again until I was 16,” revealed Greer. “Technically, I saw him once when I was 11, and I ran. It was in a Blockbuster. I ran away.”
Kelsey and Greer would later run into each other at a Christmas tree lot. Greer was volunteering as part of her duties as Miss Teen Malibu and had previously been warned that Kelsey regularly bought a Christmas tree from that particular location. Greer dismissed the warnings, believing it was unlikely they would be at the lot at the same time.
“When I was 16, I ran into him at a Christmas tree lot,” she said. “He came up to me and said, ‘Are you Greer?’ And I said, ‘Yes, I am.’ Then he went, ‘I’m –.” And I was like, ‘I know who you are. Duh.’ He gave me his phone number, and we went to lunch the next week, and that’s kind of what started our relationship.”
The Situation Proved Awkward At First
Greer, who is one of eight children that Kelsey has with various women, also explained how the situation proved awkward for everyone but she was determined not to let her dad make her feel uncomfortable. That’s despite the fact that her boss at the Christmas tree lot offered her the chance to go home after the chance encounter.
“If anyone’s going to feel uncomfortable in this situation or feel like they need to leave, it’s not going to be me because I didn’t do anything wrong,” Greer said. “I was a kid. If anyone’s going to feel shame in this situation or guilt or weirdness, it’s not going to be me.”
Despite wanting to immediately get in contact with Kelsey, who was previously married to “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Camille Grammer, Greer took advice from her mother and waited several days to give him and his family time to come to terms with what had happened.
“It took a couple of days to call him, because my mom was like, ‘Give them some time,'” she recalled. “I was ready to call him that day, like, ‘Let’s do this thing. I got a dad now, woohoo!’ She was kind of like, ‘Take some time to think about it over the weekend. Let them process it as a family and then call.'”
Good common sense by mom. I did not realize she was the daughter of housewives of Orange County. I remember that drama. I hated Kelsey for the pain he caused the family in a public forum.
Camille is beautiful and deserved better ending that chapter of her life. She took her friends to one of his shows and wore a beautiful red gown and looked like a princess. I saw the red flag after the show when he ditched her with her friends.
