The owner of Dolly Parton’s former California cottage has been receiving a “tsunami of calls” from interested buyers after the country music legend’s tragic passing at age 80.
Criss Lapp told PEOPLE that there are still memories of Dolly spread throughout.
The cottage is a three-unit property located about 35 miles north of Santa Barbara and has been on the market since May. According to The New York Times, Parton purchased the place in 2004 and ultimately sold it 10 years later for $940,000. Lapp bought the home four years ago for $1.37 million, and then listed the estate for $2 million. He said he has received numerous offers, but none have been accepted. The property includes its own windmill on the front lawn as well as a white picket fence with a plaque that reads “Former home of Dolly Parton. Singer, actress & American icon.”
The main house includes three bedrooms and two bathrooms, while another building has two units: a three-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment on the upper floor, as well as a one-bedroom, one-bathroom space on the ground floor.
Dolly Parton’s Sister Issues Emotional Plea
Stella Parton, the sister of the singer, thanked fans for their support in a recent Instagram post, while also calling for others to stop with the cruelty towards their family.
“As most of you who follow my accounts know, I’m an early riser, so here goes during my coffee hour,” she began. “First, let me say thank you to the ones of you who have shown ‘genuine’ support and love during this time of our family bereavement. We will be okay in time, but each of us will grieve in our own personal way. Every human being experiences pain and loss in life, and my family is no different.”
“Sadly, because of the way our lives have been lived in front of the public, we have no choice but to be subjected to incredible pressure and insensitivity from strangers,” she continued. “There is a tremendous amount of AI and endless garbage being posted everyday and it’s been challenging to absorb and or ignore. As time passes, those who are in the business of exploiting the loss and tragedies of others on a daily basis will move on to the next stampede of endless misinformation.”
Stella went on to say that her sister would be “surprised and delighted by the love her family and she has been show during this time,” adding that she “loved her fans and the public in general.”
“My sister was a positive influence to the world into which she was born. She used her music as a tool and a passion to move people in a positive way,” Stella said. “I ask that you show more compassion and wisdom as we move forward in life. Use my sister’s life as an example for tolerance and respect towards others.
“It’s no about the most clever comments, fake AI garbage or snarky tweets.”
Dolly Parton’s Social Media Account Was Recently Activated
On Sunday, September 6, Parton’s Instagram account was reactivated for the first time since her passing, and her family used the platform to share a heartfelt message.
“I can see the light of a clear blue morning…everything’s gonna be alright, it’s gonna be okay,” Dolly’s first Instagram post since her death read, the lyrics to her 1977 song, “Light of a Clear Blue Morning.”
