In any Olympic year, many athletes go on to compete on “Dancing With the Stars” after returning home.
“DWTS” season 33 featured rugby player Ilona Maher and gymnast Stephen Nedoroscik, two widely beloved Olympians. They went on to finish in second and fourth place, respectively. Gymnast Jordan Chiles finished in third place during season 34.
Now that the 2026 Winter Olympics have drawn to a close, ABC is undoubtedly looking for more athletes to join the competition.
One gold medalist recently shared their own thoughts about entering the ballroom this fall.
“Dancing With the Stars” Is Likely Scouting Olympians for the Fall Season
Olympic athletes bring quite a bit of talent to the ballroom. Many of them have even gone on to win the highly coveted Mirrorball Trophy, including Laurie Hernandez, Meryl Davis, Shawn Johnson, Kristi Yamaguchi, Adam Rippon, and Apollo Ohno.
Will another skater take the honor this year?
Figure skater Alysa Liu is one Olympian viewers can’t stop talking about. At 20-years-old, she already holds two gold medals. Many would love to see her compete on “DWTS” this fall.
However, she might need some convincing. In a red carpet interview with Entertainment Tonight, Alysa shared her thoughts on joining the competition.
“Has ‘Dancing With the Stars’ called yet? Because I feel like you’d be great on that show,” the ET reporter asks.
“Oh, I don’t know if I would do ‘Dancing With the Stars,'” the Olympian nervously replies. “I love dancing and I think I’m good at dancing. But I don’t know if I would do it.”
The reporter goes on to ask Alysa what she would say if ABC did call her. She shakes her head and says that is her answer “for now.”
Other Olympians Could Step Up to the Plate
Many fans hope Alysa Liu will change her mind and ultimately choose to compete. Others think she potentially could be playing coy for now. Season 33 competitor Stephen Nedoroscik also acted somewhat disinterested to avoid giving away his own appearance on the show.
But even if Alysa doesn’t step into the ballroom, plenty other athletes could accept an invitation.
Recently, names such as Aidan Oldenburg, Amber Glenn, and Madison Chock have also been suggested for the competition series.
Over the summer, ABC will likely continue scouting and recruiting superstars for “DWTS” season 35. Fans expect to see “Dancing With the Stars” season 35 premiere on the network sometime this fall.
