“Dancing With The Stars” Pro Emma Slater shared heartfelt words for James Van Der Beek’s daughter Emilia after the 8-year-old posted an emotional video about grief.
Emma Slater, 37, who was paired with Van Der Beek during Season 28 of DWTS in 2019, responded in the comments section of Kimberly Van Der Beek’s Instagram post.

Slater wrote: “There are literally no words to express how highly I think of Emilia. There are no words. I think she’s the greatest role model ever. I was blown away by her when I saw her recently and I’m blown away now. I can’t wait to see what she does in her life, I’ll be there every step of the way!”
Her message quickly resonated with fans who were moved by the child’s honesty and strength.

Slater Previously Shared Emotional Tribute After Van Der Beek’s Death
Just weeks earlier, Slater had publicly mourned the loss of her former dance partner and close friend.
Reflecting on their years together, the professional dancer shared a deeply personal tribute about the bond they built after meeting on “Dancing With the Stars.”
“My partner. My big brother. Over the many photos we’ve taken over the years, this one is still my favorite. Dancing and laughing. It’s what we do.”

Slater described how their partnership on the show eventually grew into a lasting friendship with his entire family.
“It started with being dance partners, and I was beyond excited to be dancing with you, and it continued into the deepest of friendships. You, Kimberly, and the kids became family, and I found so much purpose in our little community. Watching your love for your family changed my life.”

Kimberly Van Der Beek Shares Daughter’s Birthday Tribute For Her Late Dad
GettyIn the video, Emilia gently introduced herself and spoke about the loss of her father with remarkable honesty. “Hello, my name is Amelia Vanderbeek, and as you all know, probably know, my dad has passed away,” she began.
Emilia explained that she wanted to share a few thoughts that have helped her cope with grief. “But I’m just going to tell you a few tips or anything that helps you get through anybody you love who is passing.”
Because the message was recorded on her father’s birthday, Emilia reflected on what that day means for her and how she processes the loss.
“So today is my dad’s birthday, and the number one thing for somebody’s passing is to talk to them and let your emotions out.”
She shared that speaking to her father each day helps her feel close to him.
“If you miss them, you can cry, you can talk to them. I talk to my dad every day, and I start with a sentence, and I say, hi dad, I miss you, and I love you so much, and I’ll never stop loving you.”
Emilia also spoke about the many emotions that come with grief, adding, “I know that my dad’s in a good place. He’s not in pain anymore; he’s in heaven. Above the clouds with God and the Lord, and just cry. Cry, cry, cry. Be happy they’re in a good place, be sad because you miss them.”

“And also, something that I have done with my dad’s passing is, I stole his hat. My dad’s hat smells like him, and I love it so much.” Emilia ended the video by thanking people who supported her family during their loss. “Also, if you donated to the Kimberly Vanderbeek fundraiser, thank you so much. I checked it, holy moly. Thank you so much. I am blown away.”
The emotional message comes as the family marks the first birthday since the former “Dawson’s Creek” star died on Feb. 11 after battling stage 3 colorectal cancer. He was 48.
