Actor James Lafferty might be best known for his role on “One Tree Hill,” but he’s considering a new opportunity these days.
As fans buzz about his show, “Everyone Is Doing Great” on Netflix, the actor admits he might give “Dancing With the Stars” a try this year.
James Lafferty Continued Acting & Creating After ‘One Tree Hill’
“One Tree Hill” ended in 2012, but James Lafferty continued on with his acting career. He and his former co-star, Stephen Colletti, went on to create “Everyone Is Doing Great.” The show’s second season premiered on Netflix this month. The pair portrays struggling actors desperate to recapture their glory days.
“Seth and Jeremy enjoyed relative success from ‘Eternal,’ a hit television vampire drama. Five years after their show has ended, they lean on each other as they struggle to reclaim their previous level of success and relevance, awkwardly navigating the perils of life and love amidst a humorously painful coming of age,” IMDb notes of the series.
Now, James Lafferty admits he’s more than happy to join DWTS if fans can help boost his show on Netflix.
โI think me going onย ‘Dancing With the Stars’ย would be valuable not so much for the competition aspect, but for the comedy aspect,โ the 40-year-old addressed a fan comment on TikTok. However, that didn’t necessarily facilitate a “no.”
โMore to the point, Iโve been thinking a lot about this, and I want to do it,โ Lafferty continued. โYeah Iโm gonna doย ‘Dancing With the Stars.’ Iโm down. I have one condition: thatย ‘Everyone Is Doing Great’ย makes the top 10 TV shows on Netflix in the U.S.โ
โI will come doย ‘Dancing With the Stars’ย and be happy to doย ‘Dancing With the Stars’ย ifย ‘Everyone Is Doing Great’ย cracks the top 10,โ the actor quipped.
The Actor Discusses the Creative Process Behind His Show
James Lafferty and Stephen Colletti are happy they created the show and brought their characters to life. However, the duo knew they were taking a huge risk when it all began.
โSetting out on this journey was risky for us because there are a lot of things and chances weโre taking with these characters. These characters are the perfect storm of bad behavior,” Lafferty told PEOPLE in 2018.
โYou write what you know, right?โ he continued. โWe obviously drew a lot from our own experiences and circumstances. We do want to make it very clear that these characters are works of fiction, but at the same time โฆ I think Jeremy speaks to that part of myself coming out ofย ‘One Tree Hill’ย who recognized pretty quickly that it was going to be harder than I thought it would be. I was always prepared to do a lot more work, and I knew that Iโd wind up creating my own stuff, and that it would be a tough road, but auditioning again was a shock, and I hadnโt really prepared myself for that too much.โ
It’s too soon to say if James Lafferty will officially enter the ballroom this season. “Dancing With the Stars” season 35 kicks off this fall on ABC. The full cast announcement will arrive in the days following the season premiere.
