“Dancing With the Stars” alums Maks Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd are feeling especially emotional this back to school season.
Their 9-year-old son, Shai, has been in school for a while, but this year, things look a little differently. This fall, their youngest sons, Rio and Milan, are both old enough to attend preschool.
In a new social media update, Maks and Peta gushed over their little boys. As excited as they are about this new milestone, Peta admitted they were feeling “unwell.” See the adorable photos.

Maks Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd’s sons are beginning a new school year.
“Yesterday was also Rio and Milan’s first day of preschool together 🥹 We were unwell 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭” the mother of three shared in a sentimental back to school photo dump. The first photo features Milan, 2, and Rio, 3, sitting on the stairs and posing for the camera.
“My boys 😍🥹” Maks replied in the comments, equally emotional at the situation.
Rio’s sign revealed that he loves cookies, ice cream, and the film, “The Good Dinosaur.” He aspires to be a boat driver when he grows up. Meanwhile, Milan loves excavators, trucks, and wants to be an excavator driver someday. Several fans pointed out Milan’s adorable platinum blonde curls.
“Oh my god Pete….. this is too much 😭♥️” Peta’s best friend and fellow dancer, Sharna Burgess, wrote in the comments.
“Awwwww the cutest boys ever!! Have a great first day of school!” Angela Ribeiro, wife of Alfonso Ribeiro, added.
Other fans readily agreed, many expressing disbelief that the couple’s youngest boys were both old enough for preschool. Maks and Peta have always been open about their fertility issues and desire to welcome more children. The couple excitedly welcomed their youngest two sons in rapid succession.

The Family Relocated to Florida This Summer
Maks Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd’s youngest sons are starting preschool, but this is also a big year for their oldest. Shai is attending a new school this year after the family moved to Boca Raton, Florida, from their home in Los Angeles.
Moving across the country was a tough decision, but the couple feels confident they made the right call.
“June has been good to us 🌴💫” Peta captioned an Instagram post over the summer. She included several photos of her sons running around outside, playing in the pool, and enjoying quality time with one another.
Both Rio and Milan celebrated their birthdays over the summer, marking many milestones and creating happy memories in their new home.
