DWTS Alum Reveals Key to Keeping the Spark Alive After 13 Years of Marriage

When it comes to celebrity marriages, we hear all kinds of rules about keeping marriages strong. For some, it’s all about laughter, while others claim it’s all about considering your partner your best friend.

“Dancing With the Stars” Season 3 celebrity dancer Mario Lopez and his wife, Courtney, have been together for 17 years and married for 13. Recently, Lopez claimed that the secret to their strong marriage is all about minimizing time apart.

“We try to go without no more than two weeks without seeing each other,” he told PEOPLE.

Mario Lopez Talks Minimizing Distance and Maximizing Romance

Along with their two-week rule, Lopez said that never going “to bed angry” and always making time for date nights are also crucial. The “Access Hollywood” co-host has previously spoken about the importance of “dating your wife.”

“Just because you’re married and you have kids, it doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t romance your wife or have special moments and getaways,” he said in a YouTube video.

“We try to have quick little getaways all the time,” he continued. “Whether it’s [Las] Vegas, which is super close here to LA. And usually it’s piggybacked on me working on a fight or something along those lines.”

Along with Las Vegas, the couple tries to take a vacation in Punta Mita, Mexico — where they were married — “at least once a year.”

The Lopezes Celebrated Their Anniversary with a Sexy Dance Video and Sweet Messages

Whatever the Lopezes are doing, whether it’s not going to sleep angry, emphasizing date nights, or refusing to spend more than two weeks apart, it’s obviously working. On Dec. 1, 2025, they celebrated their 13th wedding anniversary with romantic, lovey posts on Instagram.

“13 yrs married baby! What a ride,” Courtney wrote. “I love your little family we’ve built! ♥️ here’s to eternity! 💍” She included one picture of the two kissing, and a couple of sweet photos of the couple on their wedding day.

Instead of reminiscing about their relationship, Lopez took a different approach to their special day. He posted a sexy video of himself and Courtney in a hallway. The two are shown dancing in sync to the Jack Harlow song “Lovin on Me.”

“Married to my favorite person to laugh with, dance with, and get lost in the moment with…Still crazy about you…,” the “Saved By the Bell” actor captioned the video. “And still surprised you’re still putting up with me. Te quiero mucho mi amor.”
