Famous Singer Drops By DWTS Rehearsals

One “Dancing With the Stars” couple were greeted with a celebrity guest appearance during rehearsals, the show’s official Instagram account shared on September 20.

Actress Elaine Hendrix, known for her role as Meredith Blake in the 1998 movie “The Parent Trap,” and her dance partner Alan Bersten were pictured with the singer behind the song they’ll dance to on the upcoming episode.

“The legendary @officialtonibasil stopped by rehearsals!” the DWTS Instagram caption read. “You’re going to be cheering for Elaine and Alan’s Jive on Tuesday for #OneHitWondersNight.”

Hendrix and Bersten are set to dance a Jive to Toni Basil’s “Hey Mickey” during September 23rd’s episode. ABC unveiled the upcoming episode’s theme of “One-Hit Wonders Night” on September 17, alongside the rest of the season’s themes.

Basil’s song “Hey Mickey” appeared on her debut album released in 1981. The song landed at #1 on the U.S. Billboard charts in December 1982 and became an international hit.

The song’s music video was installed in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, acknowledging the song as “one of the groundbreaking singles of the 1980s,” according to tonibasil.net.

Fans Look Forward to ‘Epic’ Performance

Fans expressed their excitement for the next episode in the comments of the Instagram post.

“Can’t wait to see your dance Tuesday,” one user wrote. “And props to Toni for making one of the catchiest songs ever!”

“@officialtonibasil is a legend 🔥🔥🔥 not even close to a one hit wonder. Go Elaine and Allen you have my vote!” another commented.

“This is going to be epic,” an Instagram user said.

“That blows my mind!!” quipped another.

Bersten shared his acknowledgement of the moment, writing “Iconic” in the comments.

The DWTS episode featuring Basil’s song kicks off at 8:00 p.m. EST on September 23, featuring dances to “unforgettable hits” like “Play That Funky Music,” “Mambo No. 5,” “Baby Got Back” and “It’s Raining Men.”

Elaine Hendrix and Alan Bersten Season Premiere Recap

Hendrix and Bersten danced the Cha Cha to Kesha’s song “Woman” on the season 34 premiere on September 16. The performance opened up with an up close shot of Hendrix wearing a black hat covering her face — an homage to her role in “The Parent Trap.”

Hendrix lifted her head flashing a bold red lip and smile, similarly to the scene in the movie where she’s introduced to Lindsay Lohan’s character.

The contestants score a 12 out of 20, receiving a pair of sixes from judges Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli.

Bersten shared insight into the decision to incorporate the Meredith Blake detail in their opening night dance during an interview with US Magazine.

“Elaine has such an incredible acting career, but Meredith Blake is such an iconic character, we had to pay homage to it,” he said. “So many kids have grown up with [The] Parent Trap. So many people are watching it now and discovering it now for the first time and realizing how great it is. I really wanted to showcase Elaine as Meredith Blake, but also as Elaine.”

Hendrix’s “The Parent Trap” co-star Lisa Ann Walter showed her support at the DWTS season premiere, with Hendrix revealing her best friend pushed back her busy schedule to attend.

“[Walter] pushed her production to be here. I was like, ‘Girl, don’t ruffle any feathers. If you miss it, it’s fine.’ But no, of course, she made it happen. She’s my ride or die and I love her,” Hendrix told US Magazine.
