Anne Hathaway shared a touching tribute to the late Valentino Garavani. The fashion designer passed away on January 19 at the age of 93. Hathaway took to Instagram to post a carousel of photos of herself and Valentino. She also wrote of tender memories between the two.
Hathaway Calls Valentino a ‘Titan’
Hathaway began her caption by recognizing the 20 years that she shared with Valentino.
“It has been my extraordinary honor to have known, loved and been cared for by the great Valentino Garavani,” she wrote. The designer began dressing Hathaway after they met on the set of “The Devil Wears Prada” in the mid-2000s. However, their relationship extended beyond just fashion.
“He is a beloved, world-renown, Titan of a designer, but he was also my dear and cherished friend who educated me, raised me, sent me flowers every year on my birthday, made me laugh, was my dancing and karaoke partner on so many joyful nights, and who made my world so much brighter, grander and more delightful than I could have ever understood it to be,” wrote the “Les Misérables” star.
Valentino Designed Hathaway’s Wedding Dress
Hathaway also touched on Valentino’s kind gesture of making a “custom couture wedding dress” for the actress. She called the gesture “so generous it still brings tears to my eyes.” Hathaway married actor Adam Shulman in 2012. She wore a stunning off-the-shoulder dress complete with a lacy veil.
Hathaway Shares her Sympathies with Valentino’s Family
Hathaway closed her post by writing that Valentino is “forever surrounded by eternal beauty, a most fitting next chapter for the one true Emperor who gifted us all a legacy of unparalleled magnificence.”
“I write this with deepest love and utmost sympathy for his entire family who I hold in my heart at this tender time x,” she concluded.
Iconic Collaborations Between Hathaway and Valentino
Valentino crafted several beautiful pieces throughout his years of dressing Hathaway.
An early example is a lacy cream dress that Hathaway wore to the 2006 “The Black Ball,” presented by Conde Nast Media Group and hosted by Alicia Keys and Iman. She paired the look with a shiny clutch.
